Pipkin - that's exactly THE one I mentioned on here a day or so ago - to someone who wondered if their Uni son would like it! I don't like the colour either but they are great fun to crochet and will last for years and be like a family herloom.

Gotta go and cook right now but will give you a link later. Dead easy!

    Hi,
Today reading House Beautiful I saw some lovely pillows and thought: I could do that!! So I searched the forum to see if there were fellow moneysavers who knitted and found this thread.
I am an absolute beginner (I used to knit in my teens, but don't remember anythg) so I really could use your help, namely where to buy cheap equipment and wool? I'm sure you've been asked this lots of times, but I've been reading the thread and can't find any clues to this, you're all much advanced for me, but I do hope that after my first project (a scarf, right?) I'll try to keep up.
    Many thanks in advance.

    PCG,

I can't help you with your quest for cheap wool and kneedles (though I would seriously look on ebay as often they sell entire sets of kneedles (of various sizes) which though an intial outlay work out more cheaply in the end than individual purchases from a shop, and for wool if you are looking for a single colour often you can get a good quantity of balls for what works out at a good price if you again compare with buying individually in a shop).

But I just want to say that I knit cushion covers, and they are really easy and pretty and very satisfying, so enjoy !

That was so fast, Pipkin. Thanks. I will look in ebay.

Can you tell me where you find the patterns for your cushion covers? Thanks again.

Have been looking on ebay for some minutes and have no idea what to look for... Can someone suggest a starter kit/ combination for a newbie? Just some needles (which type?), some wool for a scarf (which type?). Many, many thanks. I am really excited about this!!

I have bought my needles recently from a Red Cross Shop, others often mention looking in any charity shop. There is lots of reasonable priced wool around at the moment for scarfs, Home Bargains have had some ribbon type wool, Wilkinsons have a fab offer of 'fur' and ribbon type wools at 99p a ball or currently 3 balls for 99p. On the Wilkinsons wool there are the instructions for a scarf on the ball band, I think its 20 stitches on size 8mm needles and then just knit until the 3 balls are all used.....
    Have fun
I think I saw some kits in a 'factory shop' as well

I really want to crochet one of these:

    http://www.cathkidston.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=151-119-48-2&pcidl=&language=en-GB#

because I don't want to pay 160 pounds for it, and I don't like the colours.

Any tips would be greatfully recieved!

I've got one of these. Mum and I made all the squares from frogged jumpers, cardigans etc. You can pick them up from charity shops etc. Mine probably didn;t cost £10! Also got a puffball patchwork quilt my sister made from scarps of material!

It is easy! Don't know any links to anywhere, but you can do several squares each evening, once you get into it. The sewing up is just straight edges, but quite tedious! Well worth the effort though because they are so warm. Good luck.;) Can suggest Stitch and !!!!! book though, shop around for good price, or look in Charity shops, for cheap knitting books, most of which include basics before going on to more complex stuff.
