Hi everybody not been on for a while.
Still not quite finished the cross stitch Japanese lady, but couldnt resist doing a bit of knitting instead.
Love that pink cardi Tootsie. I was going to put a photo of my cardi that I had just finished knitting for a friend BUT as my hubby had used it before me to do some videos on it, it took the cardi as a video and not as a photo. (Its a newish camera and I'm not to great with it yet) I have given the cardi away now so was a bit miffed! It was mainly moss stitch with cable pattern right across the chest, I also embroidered some pink flowers within the cable, it was quite sweet. I have done this pattern many times before, but guess what, had to undo it 6 times as I kept going wrong. WHY???!!! But I was determined to finish it and not put it away and forget forget about it.
But got cross stitch photos if anyone is interested!!:rotfl:
As I have got the knitting bug now I have sarted on a little cardi for my g'child to be and bought a dress for g'daughter and am going to knit a cardi to go with it.
I cant get really cheap wool up here (top of Scotland!)but sometimes Llidls have it in (not often tho)and the 99p shop (which isnt a proper 99p shop) had 250g balls for £2.99. Just bought 2 white balls so that will do for a few baby cardis and an age 6 cardi.
When we used to live near Manchester I used to be able to get big bags of wool from the markets, so I had quite a stash many years ago, but now I have just my white wool :rotfl: but have won some lemon wool on ebay for the new baby.

Hi guys, I had no idea there was a knitting thread on here! I love it. Have spent most of today sat in airports (delayed hugely because of the Heathrow incident) and thank god I had my sock knitting with me or I'd have gone mad. I may have been very late home, but at least I was productive!
The absolute, hands down best knitting website around is Ravelry: https://www.ravelry.com. It's a knitting/crocheting community which includes a vast database of patterns - basically everyone uploads project pictures, what yarn they used etc. You can therefore search for a pattern and see what people used and how it looked, or search for a yarn that you have and see what people have made from it... Links to loads of free patters, and has some very time consuming forums!
At the moment it's still in beta so you have to sign up to a waiting list for an invitation (wait is a couple of weeks at the moment) - eventually it'll be open to everyone.

Thanks for the links. http://techknitting.blogspot.com/ has loads of useful advice and tips. You have to join a waiting list to be invited to join www.ravelry.com, which I have just done. It seems a long list but I have just read that they are inviting about 700 people a day from the waiting list so it won't take long to be a part of it.
I try and read this thread every day but don't always get time to post. It's a brilliant thread and I'd like to congratulate TOOTIES on her fantastic knitting; it's a good idea to take photos of finished projects - something I shall start doing from now on. If I can master the techie side of uploading photos, I may post some on here!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

This must be the worlds biggest non commercial stash of knitting equipment EVER! I am soooo jealous!http://mochimochiland.com/weblog/?p=111

I am on the ravelry waiting list also.
As jealous as I am of all that yarn, I think it must be a bit of an obsession.
If that lady were to knit from now to Doomsday, she wouldn't use it all.
What's the betting though that she can never find quite the right colour for her next project.
On my needles....is a new dishcloth.
I finished the 'football' one and have now started receiving the instructions for the no idea what is going to be..I think this one is a going to be a lacy pattern one.
When I find the camera, I will post a piccie of the 'football' cloth, although as it is American football, it does look more like a rugger ball than a soccer ball.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

I should have known better. In their catalogue it stated that the pattern that I really really wanted to do was in double knitting. Didn't like the wool that was linked to the pattern so bought some other stuff at half the price. The catalogue didn't say that I would be knitting with two threads of the double knitting on 8mm needles :eek::eek::eek: I have two cats and a DS coming up to 13 months, two balls of wool at once is asking for trouble. The wool I have got doesn't look anything like the picture and is varigated, so goodness only knows how this one will turn out!
Oh, and the 500g Eskimo with three patterns, bought to knit up for a friend because I was sure there would be something she liked - every one of those patterns needed other double knit. Sigh.
I always do this to myself. Currently struggling with a Woman's Weekly pattern for DS because it looked so cute - but WW patterns count rows rather than giving you measurements and I'm always forgetting to note down rows in stocking stitch. When will I learn?
I'll go to my local wool shop next time.
BTW, love the dog sweater. I am not going to try and dress the cats, but almost temptedAlways another chapter0 -

Thanks for giving that Yahoo address - I haven't joined but I did enjoy looking at all the pictures of past dishcloths! I am on the 700 stitch rows for the twirly scarf, and am just finishing off a waffle stitch dishcloth for me.0 -
Hev...I learnt to read by reading Woman's Weekly and also to follow a pattern...my mother bought it every week from the later 40s until she died in 1994, so we had many garments from the patterns which came every week....could never find the patterns though, as soon as my mother finished one she dumped the pattern, had no interest in knitting the same pattern twice.
Good luck with the knitting...started a hat with ear flaps last night for DD4 but it seems as if it might be too big, will have to do a bit more to check size.

I can knit ok (not expertly, but enough to get by for what I need) but I really really want to learn to crochet!
I've got a couple of books, and I know of an online site that has step by step videos, but I'm really struggling, I just can't get the hang of it,especially holding the yarn to keep my tension even (if I could get that right I think the rest might come).
I really want to crochet one of these:
http://www.cathkidston.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=151-119-48-2&pcidl=&language=en-GB#
because I don't want to pay 160 pounds for it, and I don't like the colours.
Any tips would be greatfully recieved!M.A.C.A.W member number 39
