Oh that is lovely Moo! It reminds me of something - I think it might be Kenny from South Park peeking out of his parka! :rotfl:

I'm about to buy my first circular needles to make The Jumper - is there anything I need to know or should look out for? Are all brands much the same or can I get any old thing from Ebay? I wasn't sure about length but think I need 80cm. I need 7 or 8mm needles and might do the sleeves with circulars too (attempting the Magic Loop) but not sure, might just use DPNs. I'm so unsure about so many things - will be a miracle if this ever gets made! :D

Edit: Nope, it reminds me of a Dalek - that's a very cool cosy!

I'm not entirely sure how to slip the first stitch. I have minimal experience and don't know the correct terms but would I just move the first stitch onto the empty needle and knit the rest of the stitches normally?

Yep, that is exactly what you do, gives you a nice even edge.

Have you tried Kemps wool for yarn? They are quite reasonably priced.

Well I have been on a shopping spree and now have a selection of sock yarn

King Cole Zig Zag in 2 colours 200g
Superba Poems in grey shaded 100g
    Regia Arabesque blue 100g
    Rico Superba Mexico 100g
    Rico Superba Chinee 100g
Sublime Extra Fine Merino 150g (for bedsocks)

Wanted to buy a selection to find out which I prefer.
Also got a free pattern with the Regia, which appears to be very similar to Silvers.
    Can't wait to get started!

    Evening everyone

I have a friends 21st birthday coming up and I want to knit her a present.

I've decided that as she's so mad on Lady Gaga that I'm going to knit her a Gaga monster (as her fans are called little monsters!)

Can anyone point me towards any monster knitting patterns please?

I like cute ones like this bottom_aligned_element.jpg

    Thanks in advance :)

Nuala, the thing that I find most important about circular needles is that where the needle 'tops' for want of a better word joins the plastic bit should be very smooth....if the join is not smooth the yarn tends to snag at times and this drives me up the walls...no patience you see. The best ones I have come across so far are Japanese...brought to me by my DIL but I am sure that they can be got online.

I am sure that others who use circulars more than I do will have more useful advice to offer....good luck with the jumper whatever method you choose.

    Thanks a mill Marie! :A
I am likely to be driven mad by this :D so that's exactly the kind of tip I want - I will check out the join before I buy.

P.S. I am just starting the ribbing of Sock #2! (where is the smilie for fainting in shock?!)

I found my way to the knitting shop on Saturday, and bought myself some wool and needles. The shop staff ladies were lovely too :) Got by with a mixture of Dutch and English, and plenty of smiles.

I wasn't able to download the pattern for the arm warmers though, not sure why. So decided to start on the basic knit scarf the book recommends instead. Was doing well, but I made it too wide, and then it was getting tiresome very quickly. So I unravelled and started again. Now I'm more than a 3rd of the way through and going strong. Also gave me something to keep my mind of the nausea I just had with a vomiting bug! Ick!

Hope all of you are well. I'm just catching up on the thread now :D

    xx
