I don't get on that well with circulars :o:eek::o so used dpn's (started with 4 but realised stitches were awful close to ends so went with 5 needles in the end).
The pattern said you could use either, which ever you felt comfortable with.

Have totally confused myself looking at all the ones available. If I have a max of 30 stitches per needle, what is the best length to go for. I'm also paranoid about stitches sliding off, so is metal or wood best? 4 or 5 needles? I can't make a decision :o
Regarding your question about dpn's, I have bamboo ones and metal ones, I find the metal ones easier in small sizes (mine seem to have pointier ends for getting into stitches) but also like the feel of the bamboo ones. I used to always use 4 (3 for stitches, 1 for knitting) but when I have a fifth one I will use it (4 for stitches, 1 for knitting). Mine vary in length too, but I tend to use them for small things such as socks, hats, cowls, so don't need really long ones.

Hi. Personally I love the wooden ones which i think are made by Knit pro. You can get them in a pack with all the sizes in- think it was about £22 but I have used it constantly so found it was worth it. I found once I had used those I didnt want to use anything else!

Cuddles , I so sympathize. You are me starting to learn to knit socks a couple of months ago. Dread. But stubborn determination. Took me ages to get used to the feel of it all. Feels like you're knitting with a spiky octopus at first.

The worst thing that could happen is that you get lost, pull it all off, rewind the wool, and re-group and go again.

As I said before, I prefer 5 pins (stitches on four, knit with one) and I like bamboo, but this is personal preference. The stitches just will not fall off. 20 cms will be fine for 30 stitches.

    Deep breaths, GO
