    Hi

I want to learn how to cable. I thought I would start with a simple headband, there are some nice ones on Ravelry.

Do I have to have the same size cable needle as knitting needles or will a similar sized one work?

While I'm here Igot an email yesterday from delamores, all their chunky yarn is 15% off! free delivery over £15

Also 'soak' is half price! I've never tried it but it sounds good!

    Morning,

I use slightly smaller cable needle.

Bizarrely, you can get quite a few different ones.

There are some with a quite pronounced bend in the middle, unnecessary and fiddly to knit from I find.

    Normal straight metal. OK.

Bamboo that just taper in the middle a bit, my favourite, especially as the stitches do not slide off on bamboo and they are light.

Does this mean you'll be moving on to Arans?!

Hi all - LOL at the description on knitting with a spikey octopus - I know exactly what you mean :)

Well I have admitted defeat and have given up on my long fingerless gloves - I bit the bullet last night and ripped them out. I'm fed up trying to get the finger bits to work properly - I'm now knitting these instead...

This is really easy to make:

Here is mine, made in a smaller size:

The braiding doesn't show well in the pic due to me using coloured yarn but it is better in the flesh!

I am continuing with my vintage gloves, am liking them so far!

Shame about your gloves- these look complicated too mind you! Have you though of making mittens- that way you have only a thumb to shape and can focus on a nice pattern on the body of the hand ? Just a thought xx

OrkneyStar I've knitted these ones before in different colours so I know I'll be fine with these - I think it was just the pattern that was wrong - you were supposed to do them in k2p2 rib but when you started increasing for the thumb you ended up with the wrong amount of stitches to continue the rib and so I gave up and just knitted it but then when I got to the fingers it just went completely to pot. That's why I tried it so many different times and gave up. :( I really liked the look of them too.

    Ah, I see.
Would love to see some pics of the ones you have made.
