Just to say that after many months of waiting and delays with the publisher - I got an e-mail from Amazon to say they have despatched http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alice-Starmores-Book-Fair-Knitting/dp/0486472183/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1255603573&sr=1-1
I have just looked on Amazon.co.uk and once again this book is not in stock but you can order it.Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

I have a long cardigan that I have knitted that I can't wear as it doesn't hang right. It has equal strips of stocking stitch and k1 p1 rib of about 4 inches wide, but the rib causes the stocking stitch parts to 'ripple' and look awful. The wool instructions say do not iron, and when I tried on a small part, it damaged the wool.
Anyone any idea whether blocking would solve the problem, or is all that hard work wasted
You don't need to iron it or even apply heat. Lay it out on a large towel on the floor. Spray it with water from a ... spray-y thing (hope I'm not being too technical here) until it's damp and then pull it into shape. Pin it to the towel at 1 inch intervals all along the bottom (use a straight edge so that it IS straight and then pull it out flat and pin along the sides and top (if you can). If it's already made up, you may have to block it in sections, or you may be able to do the back first and then do both sides dampened and folded over into their correct positions. Sorry, that wasn't very clear, but I think if you dampen the whole thing it will take FOREVER to dry. You can spread a towel over the top and blot it to speed the process up a bit if you like. The best thing is to leave it overnight.
I find that once it's been pinned out it does "remember" where it's supposed to be. If it's a yarn which tends to ride up, however, you may need just to pull it into shape when you wash it. This is no reflection on you - I have a cardigan from M&S with moss stitch borders, and that's a right b* to get right - rides up EVERY time I wash it...0 -

Hello fellow knitters - have just finished my first chrimbo project - a knitted tea cosy green hillock with golf flag, balls and club on it!! I had bought the pattern which originally had little rabbit heads and bums poking out of rabbit holes, so decided to try and vary it a bit for a golfing relative and it looks great! Next up is a yellow VW beetle for my daughter who I hope wont be too annoyed that it isnt a real one!! Anyone else knitting for Chrimbo?Feel free to thank me, it makes my toes tingle and my ears go warm :T0

Yes! Have done 3 pairs of socks for Christmas presents and got one pair still to do. Going to knit another hoodie for my littlest nephew (20 mths) as I made him one last year & he wore it loads. Made 2 shawls for presents over the weekend from some black wool - 'Touch of velvet'-that I bought for something else and never used. I've added in other bits & pieces from my wool box, some copper metallic yarn into the first one and some dip-dyed shiny blue/purple/pink yarn into the other. I've added fringes & they do look pretty good, I'm pleased to say, as I was only experimenting really, and now I've got 2 more presents. I made them using a 15mm circular needle & 3 strands of the black velvet yarn together. I started with 1 stitch then increased at each end of every row until the whole thing looked big enough. I've still got enough of the black velvet stuff left to make one for me too, so I'm going to make mine quite a bit bigger so I can have it around my shoulders in the evenings......(rather than pay those robdog energy companies a penny more than I have to!)2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

Hi there,
Been on the 'knit a square...' thread for a wee while now but been meaning to introduce myself on here too. I have knitted for years, just taught self to crochet, and am currently knitting/crocheting Christmas presents and some charity stuff too. Been feeling a bit ill and not knitted today and am missing it lol. Ok, 'nuff for now.

I have knitted a Jean Greenhowe Footballer Mascot for DS1 and a Shaun the Sheep for DS2. Am halfway through a Jean Greenhowe Ballerina for DD.
Am also knitting myself a wrap to go over my outfit for my work Christmas dinner.0
