ok, so where are we in the tip line?!

I'm going to try and de-clutter, not so much for this, but it always seems to creep up on me...and then I'll see.

But still interested to see / hear what people are up to?! and any good news stories, or not so good news stories for those who wish to get it off their chests ;)

    Hiya there!

I would really like to know if there was any progress from the Feng Shui and the money tree as reading all this since the first O/P is really fascinating!
    So tell me......

    Many Thanx;

  • This is the OP here! well, since writing the original post OH's work is coming in fast and he now knows what he's doing for 6 months ahead, so that's very reassuring. My ebay work is still poor selling-wise but this is my 5th ebay summer and I'm not alarmed by this - if people have spare cash at this time of year they are more likely to take it to a car boot sale or on holiday or whatever rather than stay home and buy on ebay, so it's expected.

The up-side to this is that the auction house that I buy from sells very cheaply this time of year, the antique trade is very seaonal and stagnant through the summer, so no-one buys in - except me - I am aquiring lots of saleables ready for when things pick up in the autumn, all at very, very low prices.
Another good thing is that there have been no more unexpected bills/repairs etc that we were bogged down with in the first 6 months of the year.
So no massive cheques popping through the door but the slide has come to a tangible halt and things seem to be improving very nicely, coincedence or not, I will never know.
I saw a little money tree in Morrisons for £1.39 on monday, and it was almost in the trolley and then I thought no, one is enough, even though ours looks nothing like it used to, I can't just throw it out and replace it with a new one, I'm going to take proper care of it now.
The 'help yourself' rocking chair on the roadside verge was TOTALLY out of character for the up-market area that I was passing though and the unexpected gift of 30 odd tubes of brown shoe polish (I know you can't eat it, use it, sell it etc) were a reassurance that if you give out, it will come back to you..cheers you up no end :j

Well, I went at this with an open mind, we could have done with a few new plants, and what's the harm etc.
Bought a money plant for £1.50 on Sunday, and put a couple of £1 coins into it, I put it in what I think is the right area and was not really expecting anything, but thought I might put the lottery on just in case.
Well Mr JL comes in tonight having bumped into a colleague he hadn't seen in ages, who mentioned something about reclaiming tax for using his own car. He's spent the night looking into it and it seems he has been missing out on some tax relief for almost 2.5 years. So if that comes in it will be a nice little windfall, and my plant hasn't even got a red ribbon yet.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

I've never heard the "open mind argument" before.

Did anyone pick up on the "lack of personal credibility" point that I made?

Who else thinks that an "I believe in Feng Shui" stance enhances their status?

If so, I like to see the "for" case put forward ;)

    Hi

I don't think believing in anything is about 'enhancing' one's status. I would think no one on this thread is remotely interested in 'impressing' anyone with their interest in Feng Shui as you are seeming to imply.
Anyone shows an interest in something because they choose to.

By the way, for someone who has no interest in these kind of things, you do visit this thread a lot.....don't you? :D

I have a BIG interest in the damage that irrational beliefs have on those who hold them.

As I have tried to point out, the ethos of this place is to become informed consumers. That means making better choices: accepting what is real and rejecting the bogus.

I'm asking what value there is in accepting the bogus. That's all. What's the answer?

What proof have you that Feng Shui is Bogus? Isn't the onus of proof on you as a sceptic not the thousands of people who take comfort from it?
Seems they don't need proof, they enjoy it or they wouldn't partake in believing in it. :D

If the only value is fun, interest and a new knowledge of others beliefs, I believe there is value in that.
If it works, or, is even thought to have a beneficial effect, then much like a placebo, I also think there is value in that.
The sceptic website you linked to is yours, because you and others believe there is nothing in it does not make it so.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.
