My Mum gave me a Buddha but I've since seen similar called a laughing god, is this different and is mine not a Buddha? it's a garden ornament in brown, he is sitting and has an open mouth with hands on knees and a big tummy.
Apprentice Tycoon - I have it in the garden and having read all these posts, I wonder if he should be higher up. He is on the ground at the min but is really heavy so not sure where else I could put him. Any suggestions please?
I've got a tiny money tree in a corner of my lounge which is south east ish, maybe if I could remember to keep watering it, it would help....will do that straight after posting this LOL.
This is a very interesting thread!A penny saved is one you don't have to earn! :wave:0 -
If you have a money tree you are supposed to tie a red ribbon around the pot and bury a couple of coins in the soil (gold coloured coins for preference)"This site is addictive!"

I like the idea of feng shui, and I dont think you're mad.
Can I ask what book you have - and is it fairly easy to follow?
Some of the ones ive looked at can be quite confusing as to the areas.
I only know about leaving the toilet seat down, so as not to have money flushed out of the household supposidly??!!!!0 -
You are all mistaking me for an expert - I just picked the odd tip from a book!
I'm afraid that I don't know the name of the book that I got from the library but after that I got Lillian Toos' The Fundamentals of Feng Shui, and I have one more from the library by her, Practical Feng Shui Formulas for Success. I still don't understand 99% of it but that bit I do get I'm happy with.
Rabbit - I think that he's a Buddha, because according to what I've read a Buddha should be laughing and Buddha is a God, isn't he? if he's too heavy to lift up then I don't think that it would be lucky to have him fall off something either!0 -
I've just tried bringing him in from the garden, nearly did my back in !! very heavy so he's left by the back door after cleaning him up (pesky birdies) for DH to move when he gets home.
Found a spot near my money tree (now watered - naughty me) in the lounge, by my reckoning it's south east ish more to the east really, going to start rubbing his tummy and see if we notice any changes. Worth a try eh?
Thanks Apprentice Tycoon, I think he must be, I've just searched the net and found similar called a Laughing Buddha. There is no way we can lift him up high so he'll have to say sitting on the floor.A penny saved is one you don't have to earn! :wave:0 -

Better get some red ribbon tomorrow and find some gold coins to pop in. Will it work with the ones filled with chocolate :rotfl:

List of things to do tomorrow:
Go to garden centre and buy money tree
Change £5note into £1 coins to bury in the soil
Locate suitable place using the sun as a guide (cant afford the compass)
Salvage red ribbon for pot
Buy lottery tickets
Sit and hope for the best!

In the book of Feng Shui I read you do not bother about geographical direction but about the direction of rooms in the house.
E.G. South east would be the area in a room that is to the far right of the door.
Or the area in a house that is as far back and to the right as you can get.
Our house is an L shape so we have a "missing area" and we face 3 main roads which converge near our house which is as inauspicious as you can get.
We have had 2 cars plough into our garden wall in the last 15 years - when it last happened two years ago I thought "Right" and rushed out to buy windchimes which are at the front door and outside the house.
No accidents so far _ fingers crossed!"This site is addictive!"

Elona - I have read about this method of working out your 'compass' points on the layout of your house rather than geographically - our house fits both so I didn't have to decide which I wanted to follow (there are going to be some non-believers reading this who for CERTAIN will think that this is oriental mumbo jumbo)
Jo - go easy on the expense in case the above sentence turns out to be true:rolleyes:
calley - chocolate coins, yes, why not, they are only supposed to be symbolic and maybe you will be rewarded with more choccy.....nice0 -
Locating the feng shui money corner :
When you stand at the entrance to the room , it is at the back of the room in the far left hand corner. Every room has a money corner.
You can put symbols of things you would like to increase in value in the money corner, eg a picture of your home, something representing your job, or perhaps your investments. I am not sure that it works for endowment policies, but you can always try.Every little helps.
Trying to keep it simple...0
