NO MORE EXCUSES - My BR Diary
NoMoreExcuses
Well - here I am about to have my last weekend of being a Pre BR.
I've filled in my forms online, but looking at some of these posts I need to check and double check. I am going to do this tomorrow and print them all off.
On Tuesday my DDs go out and so (as long as they go out on the 5th) I will then have a month before I have to worry about them again. I need to cancel the ones that dont.
Its funny that my name is No More Excuses as I think I have had more excuses than anyone for delaying the inevitable.
My Mum is going to watch the baby for me on Wednesday and then I am going with my friend to sunny Croydon. There are 3 courts in Croydon so I need to check directions for the county court. Croydon is an easy place to get lost in.
I feel quite numb and emotionless at the moment but no doubt I will have plenty over the next few days.
My debts are bigger than anyone elses that I have read about or as an individual and so I am really worried that something awful is going to happen that has not happened on here before.
I do feel quite lonely. It reminds me of when my Grandmother died and I came out of the hospital absolutely devasted, like my whole world had collapsed and yet everyone around me was carrying on as if its a normal day. Its quite surreal.
Well - thats post number 1, we'll see how we go from here.

No practical advice and I'm not going BR, but just wanted to wish you luck with it - this time next week I'm sure you will feel 100% better!
Keep posting (and reading!) on the boards - people on here are kind, helpful and supportive.:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

Your doing just fine NME.
You've certainly timed everything right.
I wasn't quite so organised (no surprise there:rolleyes: ) and made a huge muck up of DDs/wages/change of bank accounts etc, but it all sorted itself in the end, just a bit more stress i could have done without at the time.
I know what you mean about feeling lonely, even in a room full of people i would have felt alone, i was the only one i knew going through this and you feel no one understands you properly. Thats why this place can be a god send....It takes a bankrupt to understand a bankrupt:cool:
Good luck for next week, not that you'll need it, you'll be just fine.:beer:The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

Hey NME,
You're doing great, be a little kinder to yourself okay?
I know what you mean about feeling lonely. I feel like that when I'm with my friends (weirdly enough) because as supportive as they are, they haven't got a clue what it's like.
About your amount of debt - I bet there will be someone who's debts were higher
My H, as an example, springs to mind, his are HUGE. But it doesn't matter really, the amount, if you can't pay it then you can't pay it, whether it's £5k or £500k.
Good luck for next week, you'll be fine, you really will
Scarlett xxYou can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that

good luck NME
you've come a long way in a very short time from (you say) excuses to realisation to action
takes a lot of courage :T
and glad you have Mum and friend to ease the worries of little one and going to the court alone
look forward to the diary entries the other side of the court day
((((((((Hugs))))))))

Hi NME,
I wouldn't say you've made more excuses than anybody else, but you're probably in the top 10.:D
Without playing the "my debt was bigger than yours" game I can think of several Posters with debts over £100k, and I can think of two that were well in excess of £150k, I don't know how much bigger because I never copied our SOA.:o
More importantly, it's not the amount of the debt that's relevant it's the conduct of the person involved that dictates whether anything "awful is going to happen". £200k of debts incurred as a result of property and business losses is not going to raise an eyebrow; £20k borrowed with no reasonable chance of being repaid may well attract the attentions of the O.R.
You've had an awful lot of heartache in real life, and you haven't always been kindly treated on here; it's time that you had the opportunity to get on with the rest of your life, and I don't think you're far from reaching that watershed.
Best regards

Good post Richard.
One question though. I thought everybody had to have 3 copies of their SOA. One for the court, one for the judge and ONE FOR YOURSELF!;) DalipFree impartial debt advice available from: National Debtline - Tel: 0808 808 4000 | The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - Tel: 0800 138 1111 | Find your local Citizens Advice Bureau

Dalip,
You've caught me out, I'm a troll; I'm not really bankrupt.
We were petitioned by a creditor and we declined going to Court thinking that our last minute offer to the creditors solicitor would carry the day; it didn't, and with the benefit of hindsight, how grateful I am.:j :j
We had to prepare a very similar form detailing all our assets / liabilities / income / expenditure, but also a detailed summary of the status of our Ltd Co., together with all relevant personal and business documentation.
There were several Lever Arch Files, lease agreements, absolutely loads of stuff. There were four large storage boxes and we couldn't get parked within half a mile of the O.R's office. Each one weighed 14-28lbs, so I took the three heaviest and my O.H the lightest. I was almost comatose by the time we got there, and I'd assumed we'd get the whole lot back, so never thought to take copies.
Everthing was cross referenced and summarised but I lost the computer summaries when we were on holiday and our entire I.T system was switched from one employer to another; long story.
Consequently I've got virtually no accurate records of how much we owed. I do remember being slightly disappointed that the total of personal and secured business debt didn't quite exceed £200k, but what the exact figure was I've no idea.
The O.R did comment that it was the most impressively organised presentation he'd seen, and that was a mistake because he assumed we must be hiding something if we'd gone to that much trouble.  Of course we weren't.:D
