I'm wondering what it is which makes the Greek yoghurt thicker than the other varieties - different culture in the powder or something?

I don't think so - in our case it was the same consistency as the flavours but if you want to make it thick then someone further back explained that once ready (and you can leave them for up to 24 hours) they pour it into a kitchen paper lined colander and leave over a bowl in the fridge all night. The whey drains off and you have much firmer yogurt.

I think starting with at least room temp water makes a difference as from the tap its too cold at any time. I have found this new warm water method is quite effective so far.

You can use the whey for soups or breadmaking etc.

I don't know if it works with the easiyo mixes, but when making HM yog with UHT I just add some extra dried milk powder if I want a thicker yog consistency - but I agree the strained version is yummy, it has the consistency of clotted cream :-))

I'm thinking about buying the Easiyo yoghurt maker after seeing it on QVC, has anyone got one or a similar one they could let me know if it's a good buy?

Is there a thread which has recipes to use in the Easiyo rather than buying the sachets or is this it and the recipes are all mixed in this thread?

Also the Easiyo system is half price on the lakeland website at the moment.

Hi, you'll find hints and tips on this thread, but to save you searching, here is what I do.....

    You need:

1 good quality LIVE yogurt from the supermarket. It needs to be as fresh as possible so look for the longest date (having said that I have made it with tesco's value probiotic yog, and it was fine).

    2 1 lite UHT milk

3 Dried milk if you like a thicker yog

Mix about about 2 - 3 tablespoons live yog and a couple of spoons of milk powder with the UHT in the container. Pour boiling water into the flask to just above the red bezzle. Put the container in, and put the flask somewhere warm and out of draughts (I put mine on top of the fridge freezer).

Leave for about 10 hours, or overnight, then transfer the container to the fridge.

Be prepared to eat a lot more yog than normally!

  • Remember you don't have to make a litre at a time. You can make half a litre. Freeze the rest of the UHT if that's what you're using.

Thanks everybody I've just ordered the one from Lakland and some sachets of mix to get me started on learning how to make it, then I'll try and do my own.

My Easy Yo has arrived this morning. Bit busy to get it on tho', as I will need to read up about it first.
