I use semi-skimmed UHT with skimmed dried milk powder (add extra if you want it thicker), so skimmed should work (try it, the worst that will happen is that you get drinking yogurt, in which case just blend it with some fruit for a smoothie :-)I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

Right just to recap my latest - for a change I mixed a strawberry pack with slightly warm water (if it was tea I'd refuse to drink as too cold) and left it for 18 hours but wrapped it in a tea towel. Result: thicker than ever! The spoon almost stood up in it, more of a mousse really.
Think I'll try the same method next time.0 -
Sui have you managed to find packets of the mix cheapishly anywhere? Whilst I'm sure they still work out cheaper than the equivalent from a supermarket then I still think they're a little pricey...
Oh and my 2nd litre is "brewing" as we speak... full fat UHT milk though - wanted to make some the small person could have tooAnd in a fit of ultra OS I took some sad looking strawberries from breakfast (had my birthday breakfst today as no way DH would manage it tomorrow before work LOL) and cooked them down with some sugar and lime juice and put it in the fridge to put over my yogurt tomorrow
YUM
Small person might even get some for breakfast tomorrow with her banana mushDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

The cheapest around is from Wahl you can do a pick 'n mix of any 10 flavours but you have p+p too. (full range here) The last one was £23.50 or thereabouts which seems expensive but compared to supermarket prices is pretty good. Lakeland aren't too bad if you can shop locally but they have a very limited selection (4-5 flavours).
You can re-use the base yogurt and mix in your own fruit (the easiyo 'squirts' are nothing special apparently) which would be cheaper but I have a fussy eater here so the premium is something I'm happy to pay to avoid sweeter less wholesome desserts. I'm tempted to try producing fruit bases by steaming and freezing anything that's in season, but haven't got around to it yet (and would really need a larger freezer!). Pear yogurt, now that sounds nice....0 -
Pear yogurt should be easy to acchieve...
I make pear pure for the baby and they do boil down very nicely - I don't tend to add sugar to it as it's for a baby but I do try and leave the pears till they have started going a little soft so the natural sugars have started really developing
You don't actually need much room - I tend to freeze them in cubes and you don't have to do HUGE amounts
You could even get a bag of frozen fruit from the supermarket and make that into a fruit sauce... I did that with the strawberries today
The starter kit I bought had one of the fruit sauces with it - nothing more than runny jam reallysame kinda stuff as you get in muller yog corners
expect the sugar content is through the roof!!!
I am VERY fortunate to have a lakeland just round the corner so might pick up a couple of mixes for keeping as sparesDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

LOL haven't tried that - you sure its not just the top? Have to say I never open it until I'm ready.0
-
It could be just the top I guess... I've left it as it is at any rate and will probably pop it in the fridge during the night when the small person demands her feed - unless a miracle happens and she doesn't wake! yeah... right... cos THAT'LL happen :rotfl:DFW Nerd #025DFW no more!
