I've been um-ing and ah-ing over an Easi-yo for over 2 years now!!

I always hanker after one when we go to Lakeland, or when I order stuff online (I love soup'n'sauce bags!) but have never quite managed to buy one....

The EasiYo yoghourt maker turns out good stuff but you have to buy the sachets which are quite expensive I think. Last time I looked a sachet of plain yoghourt mix cost about £1-30 for a litre, and the flavoured varieties about £1-50 a litre. Of course you can sometimes get good deals on the mixes from QVC.
Heavens! I made a litre of whole milk yogurt yesterday in my yogurt maker for about 47p (cost of 1 litre of milk), I used 2 tbsp yogurt from my last batch as a starter so I suppose I should factor in the cost of that too, plus the electricity -no more than 60-70p i should think.

I used to make my own yogurt in a food flask but found that i was using more than i could make as i usually turned half into soft cheese, i was filling the flask every night and i couldn`t be bothered with it after a late shift at work but missed the yogurt.

Eventually i bought the lakeland yogurt maker and i now use this to make a litre at a time using uht smartprice milk and a spoonful of greek yogurt. To make it thicken up usually takes about 9 hours as my kitchen is really cold but the result is great with no need to add anything else to thicken it.
The cost is around 70 to 80p per litre. The yogurt is really thick and creamy.

  • Hi, I am new to this messaging, and also to making yogurt,
I bought the Easiyo Yogurt Making kit from QVC, received it 2 week ago, the first attempt was a bit grainy but tasted great, the rest I have tried are really lovely, both Husband and Son commented how nice they were, Today we are trying the Greek, it is lovely thick and so tasty, but after reading quite a few threads I rather fancy trying to make my own yogurt, but one question, do I have to heat the long life milk before adding it to the Yogurt and powdered milk?

    Hi Leadyju :hello:

I normally heat my milk in the microwave until it is just about body temperature before adding the yoghurt, powdered milk and a tiny bit of sugar. ;)
  • Thank you Haribo Junkie

I am going shopping today so will get long life milk and give it a go tonight, I'll keep you posted with the results.

i have the easy yo maker and make at least 2 packets aweek, was getting them from Julian Graves but it was getting too expensive but another memeber pointed me to Wahl where you can bulk buy so i now have about 3 months worth at a cheaper cost per packet!

i did try the make my own but i didnt like it so have kept to the easy yo mixes as i do love the flavours, tried cherry with the delivery i got and that is really lovely, could do with getting some cherries and mixing them in to get the fruit bits in.
I love War Of The Worlds:heart2:

I have been lucky enough to get one unused from freerecycle.
However I am allergic to cows milk so want to make it with soya milk.
Has anyone tried it with success and if so can you give me a step by step method and ingredients please.
Always on the hunt for a bargain
  • I tried making my own yogurt from UHT skimmed milk, it turned out Ok, but you cannot beat Easiyo packets, they are so lovely (even the skimmers) I think I will stick to them,
