I'm all in favour of kitchen gadgets and crikey I have loads so I'd be hypocritical to criticise them but I just dont get the whole easiyo thing because making yoghurt is such an easy thing that I dont see the point of these sachets.I've just treated myself to a new electric yoghurt maker from Lakeland (19.99)and all you do is add 2tsps natural yoghurt,2tbsps Milk Powder and 900ml of milk.Give it a quick stir, plonk the lid on and turn the machine on and wait for 8hrs till its ready.I dont see how the easiyo can be any easier than that?
I strain my yoghurt as I like it really thick and creamy and then top it with sweetened stewed fruit.Tonight it was Morello Cherries as they are on special offer at the moment but it can be any fruit or at a push milk shake syrup if I have no fruit in the house

As the title suggests - im so disappointed with my new Easiyo maker
Ive now got a kilo of runny seperated liquid !!!
I have umd and ard for ages deciding whether to buy one or not - even trying to use a thermal flask and make my own yoghurt to unsuccessful results and last week i watched the programme on QVC about it so i decided to go for it. I ended up getting the maker from Julian Graves as it was reduced. My husband wasnt very happy saying lots of things like 'Well you better use it now youve bought the b****y thing !!!' I got the gift pack set with 1 pack of mix and a fruit squirt.
So all excited this morning i made up the packet i got in the gift pack. Its just the plain natural variety. I remembered seeing on QVC that they said if its cold make the mix up with room temp water rather than straight from the tap, our tap water comes out really cold at the mo so i put a big splash of boiling water in - i guess the temp was probably closer to body temp rather than room temp. Anyway i mixed it all up - filled up to 1/2in above the 'baffle' and left it. I must admit i took a couple of sneaky peeks to see how it was doing - after 8 hours it was still runny and all seperated BUT it does smell and taste like yoghurt.
Do you think the water was too hot when i mixed up the packet of mix ??
Ive used some of the runny mix as a topping to my spinach and soft cheese cannelloni we are having for tea - but i still have about 2/3 of the jar left - is there anything i can do with it apart from throw it out - could i use this as a starter for a batch of HM yog made with UHT milk ?? Or could i strain it over night and turn it into cheesey stuff ??
I dont really want to use up another packet of mix - as at £2.20 its not really MS wasting one if it doesnt work again.
Anyway sorry for the long post - Ive read through the posts of this thread and i think the only thing i did wrong was to use warm water to start with but any other hints and tips would be greatly appreciated

well I brought my easiyo maker yesterday.....wow...my DD has had half a bowl full already and my DS1 like it too.. So for me it's a success.
Purplemunchkin it does say in the book that it may seperate and just to stir it back in. Also depends on how long you left it? I left mine for 8 hrs and mine turned out fine, there is a little bit of whey stuff on top but that just mixes back in. Hope you manage to get it sorted. I'm just pleased that kids like it..:smileyhea:heart: Mrs Lea Nov 5th '11:smileyhea

I too bought the easiyo yoghurt maker and have had good results. I used cold tap water in the mix and left it about 16 hours. I looked halfway through and didn't seem to harm it. The yoghurt did look separated at the end but I just mixed it and it was nicer after being in the fridge.0

I've not read the whole thread yet, so sorry if this has already been posted but thought this was interesting,........to make your own yoghurt using a flask. http://www.downsizer.net/Projects/Processing_food/Yoghurt_making/Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Make sure that your water is room temperature and not straight from the cold tap as its probably too cold straight from the tap at this time of year. I tend to take it straight from the tap but add a little hot water to take the chill off it. I also, as suggested by another poster, fill the maker to just over the baffle with boiling water in colder weather.

hi, I tried this yesterday but the stuff came out thick but looking curdled. Anyone know where I went wrong please. This is the 3rd batch I've tried (1st two didn't set) and it's getting to be a very expensive experiment!0 -

It tasted ok, a bit sour perhaps compared to my normal yogurt but I guess that could be adjusted by leaving it less time next time. I was just a bit worried about eating it as I wouldn't know if it was off or not.0

I've only done fruity ones but they do taste "lemony/acidic". I really don't see how it could be "off" and I suggest you get some Imodium in and test it out
Let's hope there will be replies from more experienced EasiYo-ers soom

The EasiYo yoghourt maker turns out good stuff but you have to buy the sachets which are quite expensive I think. Last time I looked a sachet of plain yoghourt mix cost about £1-30 for a litre, and the flavoured varieties about £1-50 a litre. Of course you can sometimes get good deals on the mixes from QVC.One life - your life - live it!0
