    thanks for the reply :)

i am indeed using boiling water inside the flask, and cold water to mix with the powder

i've tried a couple of tweaks having read some comments on various websites, including allowing the water to come to room temperature because apparently if you mix water that's too cold with the powder mixture, that can affect things - i've also tried topping up the flask with a little extra boiling water once the yogurt jar has been placed inside, as it says to do in colder climates (i live in scotland :D), but still no success

the website i purchased the item from has asked me to send them the batch number of the yogurt powder mix i used, i guess maybe they're considering the possibility that it's a bad batch....

i'm really frustrated by it because i really want it to work! :D
Try making it the way I do (it's alot cheaper than the mixes)Then if that works, it's probably the mix that's dodgy. It's semi skimmed UHT milk, 2 tbs powdered milk, 2 teaspoons sugar and 4 tbs live natural yoghurt (save some from each batch every time) Mix together well and use the flask as instructed. This has made perfect creamy yoghurt for me every time. (and I'm in the West Highlands) :D
  • HI

It must be dodgy yog powder. I have been using Easiyo for months now and have never had it go wrong. Sometimes I freeze a bit of the greek yog I make into ice cube trays and use 2 cubes with room temperature UHT milk to make natural yogurt cheaper. That turns out fine too. Once it was a little thin when making my own natural so I put it into a clean tea towel, secured it with elastic bands and hung it from the tap for an hour to thicken it up - let it drip. If you hang yog for a few hours it makes great dips you can flavout with garlic and chives and all sorts of other things.
  • We cannot get UHT milk where I live - only pasteurised which has not had quite as much bacteria destroyed as the UHT.

Does anyone know if you can use pasteurised in the Easiyo and how to deal with it - i.e. does it have to be heated first and if so, to what temp?

Fab results with the Easiyo powders - but they can work out expensive - we're on third mix in 3 days!
  • I use a mix of home made and Easiyo mixes (not together!) and need to top up my mixes. I've used various suppliers and am trying to source the cheapest place to buy online.

Rather than spend ages trawling through cashback sites (I used quidco and wepromiseto), reading up on shipping costs etc. I thought I'd ask MSEs where is cheapest. I tend to buy natural organic and Greek yoghurt mixes but try other stuff occasionally.

    Any suggestions please?

I also have an Easiyo maker, I bought it in May of this year and last week the batch of yoghurt I made didnt turn out right. It was grainy in texture and was very thin, becoming almost liquid after a day in the fridge, this has never happened before.

A day after eating the yoghurt I was sick with vomiting and a bad tummy, I wonder if the two were related?

    I use www.yoghurtdirect.co.uk

When I looked at who was cheapest I found they were best value provided it was a bulk order.

Sounds suspicious.......did you keep any that you may be able to get analysed? Perhaps contact Easiyo?
Hope you are now feeling better.

Thanks. I've used them before and they were good value (and I do buy in bulk).

I haven't got the easiyo out for ages but am spending a fortune on Activia at the moment so i'm going to resurrect it!

coolhand duke - i guess you could make it with all powedered milk as the easiyo packs are dried but why not use UHT instead then you don't have to heat it. As others say, UHT with milk powder and some starter is the best way!

  • i loved my esiyo but stopped using it as it was getting so expensive!
now i have found this thread and has made me think about getting the old maker out and having a go.

now the one thing i am wondering is about flavouring! could you use anything like crusha milkshake mix????

also the frozen starters do you have to defrost them before using or can they be used straight from the freezer???
