Julian Gaves near me have a half price on everything including Easiyo maker gift pack, spare containers, mixes etc.

Dont know if its a national clearance sale though.
  • Well I had a go but it didn't come out how I wanted.
I found powdered milk, which I used 2 tbsp of, I used 2 tbsp of Danone activia vanilla and UHT milk not heated mixed together and then put boiling water into my easiyo and left it over night but it's still runny, not as runny as the milk was originally but come out as the thickness of drinking yoghurt.Any suggestions?

I tried this for the first time last night after having read about it on this forum last week.
I used 2large tablespoonful of yeo valley natural yoghurt (it was reduced to clear when I bought it on Monday), 2 tablespoons of skimmed milk powder and filled the container with whole UHT milk. Everything was at room temp.
I filled the easiyo up to the top of the baffle before I put the container in, this meant that the water came well up on the container.
I started it off at about 2o'clock yesterday afternoon, meaning to take it out before I went to bed. I forgot to take it out at bedtime so when I got up at 4.30 this morning, I really expected to find the mix had turned to cheese, but no! I think it's one of the best yoghurts I've ever had out of the easiyo, and that is all down to the wonderful tips on this board.

AKD, I don't know if it could have been because you used activia stuff, or if it could have been because you used the vanilla, or maybe it just needed to be left in the flask a bit longer. I have come down in the morning, having used the easiyo sachets, found that the yoghurt looks too runny, so I have refilled the flask and just given it another hour or so.

I'll go and have another go but leave it longer this time.

    Thanks for the advice xxx

    Hiya!
I went into my local shop today and all the easiyo mixes were £1 ish as they were half price which made me think about ressurecting my old easiyo which I have now done and is sitting there making me yoghurt.
But, I also found a massive box of old easiyo mixes, (sell by date of 2005 eek!)- are these still ok to eat or should I just chuck them out?
    :)

I made yoghurt the other day with an out of date sachet of Easiyo yoghurt mix, dated use by September 2007 and it turned out fine. Left it for six hours exact so not tangy flavoured. You could try them and see, they might not set as well but I think they'd be ok.

  • I am now the proud owner of an EasiYo that I asked for on freecycle. I did my first batch in it last night and it's turned out brilliantly! I used room temp UHT, two heaped dessertspoons of Longley Farm live as a starter (froze the rest) and a bit of my yogurt from last week's batch, and 1/3 cup of milk powder. I splashed some of the milk into the bottom of the pot, added the milk powder and gave it a good shake, then added the starter and filled with UHT to the line on the flask. Then I filled the flask bit with boiling water to the top of the baffle and left it overnight (from 10pm last night to 7.30 this morning). It was really thick and I've had some today with raspberry jam, and then I tried stirring in some of Mr M's strawberry crispy clusters cereal. Nom nom nom! Very happy me :D

  • Hello everyone! So far I've used the Easiyo to make a very nice soy yogurt with UHT soy milk, some dry milk powder and live culture vanilla yogurts. Honestly, I haven't tried an Easiyo mix (they're expensive!), I've just used the Easiyo containers for their incubation.

However, here is my question: To cut down on costs even more, has one tried making yogurt ONLY with reconsituted dry milk powder? And if one makes yogurt from powdered milk, does one have to scald/heat it as one has to heat fresh milk for yogurt?

I ask this because as a student in a dormitory, using dry milk powder and not having to heat it would not only save me money, but also save me some time and trouble.

I am only wary of trying this because of possible health risks. It seems that if milk isn't from a UHT box, it must be scalded or boiled before using in yogurt to "kill bacteria." Is that bacteria that might make me ill? Are the same bacterias present in fresh milk present in dry milk powder?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

    hi everyone,

i recently purchased an easi-yo yogurt maker and so far have attempted one natural yogurt powder mix, and two raspberry powder mixes - all three attempts have been disappointing, with the yogurt turning out like milk and not thickening up at all

my current try is now 15 hours old and is still watery and runny, i've put the lid back on and put it back in a warm room and will wait the full 24 hours to see if this improves things at all - am i likely to see any improvement or is it a case of 'if it's not set by now, it never will' ?

i have read that people who have trouble with it setting have replaced the water with fresh boiling water, however the instructions do say not to do this as it can kill the healthy bacteria in the yogurt, thus making the whole thing pointless anyway

any advice and help would be very much appreciated, i can't work out why it's not working!

Are you sure you're using boiling water to fill the flask up to the baffle? It's cold water in the jar and boiling water in the flask. That's if you're using the easiyo mixes. I use UHT milk, milk powder and sugar instead. ;)

    thanks for the reply :)

i am indeed using boiling water inside the flask, and cold water to mix with the powder

i've tried a couple of tweaks having read some comments on various websites, including allowing the water to come to room temperature because apparently if you mix water that's too cold with the powder mixture, that can affect things - i've also tried topping up the flask with a little extra boiling water once the yogurt jar has been placed inside, as it says to do in colder climates (i live in scotland :D), but still no success

the website i purchased the item from has asked me to send them the batch number of the yogurt powder mix i used, i guess maybe they're considering the possibility that it's a bad batch....

i'm really frustrated by it because i really want it to work! :D
