"savingsgirl are you suggesting that we shouldn't spend money on holidays or anything else extravagent as people are struggling?"

"Similarly, I don't feel that anyone has the right to comment negatively on anyone's shopping habits for any reason"

Ok, I have just read through everyones replies and I need to clear a couple of things up. I said there were 2 sides to the argument (isnt there always?!!) at no point did I say what my view was. In an earlier post I said that I personally would not buy food my family and I would not eat. I have not said anything against bulk buying or giving to charity (which I think is ace!) Its just as a mum of three young children I do not have the time to arrange to send food elsewhere so I choose not to do it, with a bit more time on my hands I may do! I have not said anything against people savings their points for holidays as I am doing the same myself!!! Please do not assume my opinions!

Thanks for clearing this up savingsgirl, however I'm sure you can understand that it is easy to be misunderstood by:

'on the other it seems very extreme that people are buying 100s or 1000s of packets when there are people struggling to get by'

Seemed to suggest you were against bulk buying.

"There are two sides to this argument. On the one hand why shouldnt people benefit from this offer to improve their homes etc.. on the other it seems very extreme that people are buying 100s or 1000s of packets when there are people struggling to get by"

Arghhhh!! I was just trying to show the two different viewpoints. Wish I hadnt bothered. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone so if you want to read more into my post than I intended then feel free to go ahead, I have more important things to worry about!! (such as what to cook with the chicken in gravy tonight)

Oh savingsgirl.....I'm sorry...I didn't mean you when I said the bit about commenting negatively. I was referring to the comment made by 'mamckay'. It was that which I felt was unfair and I didn't feel should have been made as none of us have the right to question another's shopping habits (imo).

Hmmmm, I've just logged in at tesco & though I'd check my points. Up until recently it has been saying £600 ish .......

It's dropped by about £500....and this isn't coming in my August statement (because my points dropped by about £10 for this).

Right - just been on the phone to them. They have deducted £495 of points as they thought it must have been a mistake to spend £650 ish and get 50,000 ish points. What happened in my original transaction was a mistake at the till which meant I did 2 transactions....one of which I forgot to hand over my clubcard for !!!

I had to go and get the points added manually at Customer Services. Clubcard have seen the 50,000 odd points adjustment for a £650 spend and thought "this does not compute". I had to explain to him that it was not actually a mistake & they need to reinstate the points. He was incredulous, so I had to explain the beef deal. He needs to speak to a manager so unfortunately it looks like this deal will come in for some focus at tesco now.

Apparently nobody bothered to call me to check as it was a store adjustment (and clearly a mistake). Be careful out there. I feel the need for itemised statements now :)

thepearce, that is a worrying precedent. I never check my points so I wouldn't know if Tesco removed any, and I haven't bought lots so I probably wouldn't notice if they took some points away. I may register online and keep an eye on the points in future.

I went in to Tesco today just for bread and didn't even look at the chiller cabinet, how good am I? I did get a till voucher though for 50 extra points on 250g Anchor butter yesterday which I used today on a 72p block of butter. However, the points wouldn't go on and i spent about ten minutes with all the staff trying to work out why the points wouldn't add, before they did it manually. Made it a long shopping trip just for bread and butter!

    Soo

Phew...... Nice Mr Tesco (apparently he's Scottish) just rang me up to confirm they have now put the missing points back on, as they now understand that it was correct, and why it came about. Phew.....

It seems my account had been flagged by the high points balance team and what with the fact the points adjustment was manual, they assumed there'd just been a mistake. Fair enough I guess but slightly unnerving that nobody bothered to ask me or check the actual transaction closer. (they could have looked at the previous transaction for beef with no manual intervention and a lot of points per £).

Anyway...he was quite amused (seems there was some fuss in putting the points back on and " don't want to know"), but it seems I'm sorted. I think in the absence of itemised statements you should keep your receipts and check the web frequently.....but I don't want to have anyone panic, just be aware.

Please continue to bother to post things like this else you wouldn't be you. Everyone has a right to disagree.

I didn't assume your opinion, I asked for it.

As for the chicken, the recipes on the beef thread are transferrable to the chicken too (I just love convienince food!) My 1 year old loved the stir fry with chicken and noodles. If you cooked something else with the chicken though, please add it to the thread so I can cook it too as I have run out of inspiration.

    thepearce-AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH.

    phew. result.
