Tesco Clubcard - Extra Points Goods

Tesco do have a bulk buy policy. It's up to them whether they use it to stop someone clearing the shelf.
Very early on in this I had about 20 in my trolley (there were still some left in the chiller) and the bulk buy policy was invoked. At this store it meant no more than 5 of any one product. I bought 5 & 1 chicken.
Customer services at the store explained that the policy existed for the benefit of all customers, so that the products were always available to all. I accepted this no problem (even if they may just need to restock the shelves). They also suggested if I wanted these things I could do a special order - this way the goods are ordered specifically for you, and you are not affecting the store's stock for customers.
After some thinking I decided to buy 1,140, and I have no problem with what I did, whatsoever. If the food was going to be wasted at all, I personally wouldn't have done it. With a few calls I ensured the food would all be taken by homeless hostels. For me this was a win-win. Greedy? Not sure, just doing things a bit bigger than most would think about. It's an offer, that's all, a very good one and probably not all that well thought through.
For me I simply looked at the return on "investment" and that at the least I could use the money on shopping if I needed to. I spent what I could "afford". My take was that it was better to act now, while I can, than regret it in a few months when I should have a job again and be a bit more flush......and be kicking myself.0 -

I kind of see what some people are trying to say, but I must say I disagree. It's not doing anyone any harm and plenty of charities are benefiting greatly. Surely you would rather they had food than Tesco made MORE profit?
As has been said Tesco have no problem with bulk buying so why does anyone else? I think the comment that its extreme to buy 100s when some are struggling to get by is incorrect - those that are struggling to get by - i.e. the homeless - are benefiting with large quantities of beef!!
In my opinion something that is wrong is people deliberately buying large amounts of food knowing they are incorrectly priced and then claiming refunds! This is a bit dishonest and some people are even getting banned...anyway tis a different thread0 -
I think aliasojo has hit the nail on the head.
I'm quite proud to have been boastful with this offer...surely the point of this site is to save money and share how you did it? I, and loads of others have saved money. The money was set aside anyway for a NZ trip, so if tesco want to help me keep extra money in the bank, then so be it.
And I know there are people struggling to get by...I've helped them by donating over £1000 of food to them. I was going to spend this money on a holiday anyway...savingsgirl are you suggesting that we shouldn't spend money on holidays or anything else extravagent as people are struggling?
3 weeks after my buying marathon, the several stores round here have fully stocked shelves of beef most of the time. It would be easy to limit the offer...one store limited the amount on the shelves whilst I was buying...but if the shelves are empty, Tesco can refill them and consumers can get raincheck vouchers. I was only ever questioned once when buying more than 10 items of the same thing...and that time the supervisor was fine with it and looked at me like the cashier had a problem by calling the supervisor over.
Tesco & birds eye will profit else they wouldn't have run the extra points offer.
Tradewinds will profit else they wouldn't offer clubcard holidays.
I know the homeless all over the country have profitted.
I certainly have profitted.
Loads of people on this site have profitted.
So why do you have a problem with it?!

I honestly do see your point. I assume it would be galling for those who were struggling to get by to read about the amount of beef bought, or the amount spent.
However, there will always be those who can afford to do things and those who can't. I just don't see why one should have any bearing on the other though? I don't mean to sound cruel or unsympathetic, but I have to live my life in a way that suits my family.....it's not my fault if others can't do as I do and I don't feel I should adapt my behaviour because of them. Similarly, I don't feel that anyone has the right to comment negatively on anyone's shopping habits for any reason (unless of course they're doing something illegal or immoral etc). That's clearly not the case here though.
(Just re-read that last paragraph....I don't mean it to sound harsh but tbh, I'm struggling to offer my feelings on the subject whilst trying to word it carefully enough so as not to cause offence to anyone.)
The main object of this site is to inform and educate people in the hope that they become financially savvy. Utilising unorthadox means such as Tesco points is a perfect example of a legal, perfectly legitimate way to increase your buying power whilst saving you cold hard cash. I genuinely find it difficult to see anything negative about this at all and I think people should avail themselves of this offer as much as they can.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Does anybody know what the Tesco policy on bulk orders is?
I have had two orders for 300 items each cancelled by phone, even though i had rang the stock controller in the two different stores involved to check it was o.k.
I have just emailed Tesco to ask.Sponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0 -

I would ask them, on the phone, exactly why they have cancelled the order. For my own order I had to order in multiples of 12 (cases). I wanted 95 cases but originally the store was reluctant to order more than 10 cases. I suggested ordering 10 for each delivery, and they just changed their mind and proceeded with the order. They took no payment either until delivery. I'd try and find what the problem is and if it's something you can overcome.0 -
I collected my first bulk order of 500 packs of beef yesterday. I've filled my chest freezer and the surplus has been given to a homeless shelter.
I've ordered another 1000 from my store and was asked what i wanted them for. When i explained that i was getting the extra points and the food was being donated to charity, they said no problem and put the order through.
Going to pick up the rest next week and this time the whole 1000 are going to various different local shelters and charities.
Anybody struggling for a charity do donate to could try

I dont know if they'll take your food but they are a food redistribution charity.A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0 -

Ok, I have just read through everyones replies and I need to clear a couple of things up. I said there were 2 sides to the argument (isnt there always?!!) at no point did I say what my view was. In an earlier post I said that I personally would not buy food my family and I would not eat. I have not said anything against bulk buying or giving to charity (which I think is ace!) Its just as a mum of three young children I do not have the time to arrange to send food elsewhere so I choose not to do it, with a bit more time on my hands I may do! I have not said anything against people savings their points for holidays as I am doing the same myself!!! Please do not assume my opinions!Auntie Savingsgirl 24/9/06 :j0 -
