£900 Credit note help (shop denies they said they'd give a refund)

Options
For Christmas I got a £900 bracelet from my mum. I hated the bracelet (she thought I might not like it and spent over an hour deliberating whether or not to buy it) As my mum knew I might not like it she specifically asked if they would refund her credit card should I not like the bracelet, my mum was with her sister and my friend, both of whom were witnesses to the guy in the shop saying Yes he would refund.

I hated the bracelet and was annoyed that my mum had spent so much on it for me so I told her to return it for a refund, which she did on 27 december.
Her business mobile rang whilst she was in the shop and she had to take the call.. the shop guy gave her a receipt and she left the shop.
A month later she saw there was no refund on her credit card and rang the shop. The guy said he hadn't given her a refund but a CREDIT NOTE, my mum then said to him she'd asked for a refund, he then told her Company Policy, they don't DO refunds! My mum thought he had refunded her card.

I looked in the shop a few times but there was nothing i wanted and i still felt awful about her spending so much so we went in to discuss the refund with my friend who was also there when my mum purchased the bracelet.

The same guy that served her originally was there and he remembered my mum and her taking ages to decide, but insisted he did not say he would give her a refund. My friend was there and backed my mother up. He started going on about company policy blah blah blah but whispering cos it's a small (quite nice) shop and there were customers in the shop. I was furious as he was being so rude to my (unconfrontational) mother and said loudly "SO BASICALLY YOU JUST LIED TO GET A SALE?"
he whispered "i did not lie, i didn't say she could have a refund" I then told him he was "only whispering cos he knew he was lying now and had 3 customers in his shop and didn't want them to know what a sham he was running and I don't WANT any jewellery I don't wear it! I wear a watch and if I did want a new one I certainly wouldn't want it from here due to your odious attitude!
( i know i should have kept my cool, but didn't)
He refused to back down in any way or even admit what he said
So we left with the credit note, but my mum was surely missold the bracelet, there is no way my mum could afford to just spend £900 on the idea that i MIGHT like something !

Trading standards can't help as it's apparently not criminal, is there anything else we can do?
£900 is a lot of money that i have no desire to spend in their poxy shop!
As it stands now the shop have had the money since 22 december and had their stupid bracelet back since 27 december!
the manager refused to help too saying she will just do me a "really good deal" on something else!

Got to be worth a try asking the c/c co. Give them as many details as possible. Its a long shot.

I hate to say this but a shop is not under any duty to give a refund just because the purchaser changed their mind (or decided they didn't like it) ......you are only really entitled to a refund if the item purchased is unfit for the job it was intended for.

If the shop is part of a chain then you may have more success in writing to the head office, pleading to their better nature.

You could just pop down to your local CAB to see your legal stance. But as mountainofdebt said, if its a chain, write to their head office (a nice scartistic letter should do).

Just throught: I know its been 7/8 months but see if they have any CCTV fotage with sound. I know its a long shot but could be worth a try as some jewley shops have sound recorders on their CCTV as to hear what might be said in a hold up.
I remember when this was just a little website! :money:

For Christmas you got a £900 bracelet.

Some others got a late unwanted present a day later.

    They died.

Maybe it's just me who thinks you need a reality check.

I agree totally, I could say more but will keep my mouth shut...I hope you haven't upset your very kind, generous mother by your attitude and ungratefulness.

Wish I had a mother to buy me anything, never mind a £900 bracelet...

    Here, I've said enough!

Didn't you READ that bit Daveboy, Kimberley and Ember?

Not that it's anything to do with any of you what or how much my mother spends on me! That wasn't the point! And if I wasn't bothered I'd just choose something else in the shop instead of causing all of this fuss TO GET HER MONEY BACK!

Can't you see? Your complaining about a £900 neckless and a day later thousands were killed in the Tsunami

    Stop being so ungrateful...

Unfortunately they're not a chain, my friend who is the manager of a jewellery store chain told me they just refund anyway if someone changes their mind, though I know theres no legal obligation to do so, however the guy did say he would refund if it was no good.
basically, he just lied to get the sale and took advantage of my mum.

Some people have more money than sense.

Thankfully I have a mother who wouldn't be stupid enough to spend that sort of money on something she wasn't certain I'd like.

It seems she has a daughter who is just as clueless - add unthoughtful and selfish to that too.
