.....the only losers will be those who have lived beyond their means for too long and will eventually have to pay the price.
Quite right!
That's if you exclude:
Those who lose their job in a recession
Those who are forced out of their home by landlords who get repossessed
Those who's businesses go down the pan as a result of a floundering economy.
Those who's partners run off with all the cash in the bank.
Those who have been unlucky enough to save and invest in the wrong areas
Those who have been hit by illness or injury. Try telling a cancer patient that he is in the financial mess due to his own undoing!
I know people who crashed in the last recession who were very careful budgeters. It's crazy to think that eveyone who comes unstuck financially have been guilty of frittering their money away. It's just not true!
People who live well within their means get caught out, it just makes it less likely if they are careful.
I really can't believe anyone here would be so insensitive to make that comment!Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
....Oh yes, and please keep the HPC thread in one area, to leave the rest of the forum subjects visable.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0

Far more eloquent than me and better than I could write but exactly what I was thinking, thank you0 -
abaxas, to summarise the poll result:
Crash expected: 10%
No 20%+ crash expected: 85%
No opinion: 5%
For a resounding 90% who do not agree that there will be a crash in 2008.
It's not a poll about HPC discussion threads here but if you really do think it should be acted on on that basis, you just lost your argument.
Your claim that a poll that so thoroughly contradicts the HPC view supports it even though it does exactly the opposite, and claiming that it's about the threads here when it isn't both illustrate well the problems with the HPC threads.
Lest anyone think that I merely don't want a crash, I note that I'd benefit greatly from a massive drop in UK residential property prices.0 -
sorry sweetie, but recessions are only a bad thing if you are a debt junkie and have to pay the price for your over-indulgence.
for the rest of us prudent, sensible people who have lived within our means and have cash and a good credit rating, recessions are great.
They blow off all the froth and speculation and prices (of everything) get back to "normal"
nothing, and I mean nothing, will prevent this boom turning into a bust.
and I can't wait.
I have no debt and sufficient equity but I think your view is slightly skewed, I am sure you would like a cheaper house when you trade up but think of the cost of an economic downturn..you say you can't wait for a recession if I read right, this is madness.0 -
I'm glad other people are challenging Mrs. Vita (surely not a relative of Dolce?!) - I was too angry to write anything more after their comments which I felt were arrogant and selfish.
Yes I too would benefit greatly from a house price downturn, being a 26 yr old renter keen for my own place, and yes I am in a pretty recession-proof job as is my OH, we probably would personally come through a recession relatively unscathed. BUT I wouldn't wish the more general misery of a recession on the UK just because it might benefit me?! I find the thought of that ridiculous and completely uncharitable. Don't you have a shred of compassion for those around you?0 -
Totally agree with you, it made my blood boil, HugoSP put it better than I could.
Its total economic ignorance in my opinion and I had to reread it as I thought it was a (poor) joke.
The Vita household and their financial darwinism theory seem to be consigning the entire DFW forum members to the scrapheap....smug shallow and insensitive,0 -

There are so many threads on here that says more about the poster than anyone else or the subject in hand, and they don't paint a pretty picture.
Today I replied to one such post, and it's not this one
Mrs Vita would no doubt suffer as we all would in a recession, not least if she and her husband, god forbid, lost their jobs. To think this couldn't happen is naive to the extreme. I for one wouldn't wish this on them, and I honestly don't think they would either.
I know a couple who were both made redundant by their common employer. They were careful with their money and never took out excessive finance. Yet they suddenly found themselves heading towards debt.
This sort of thing is commonplace in a recession. No one is immune to cash flow interruptions. Even if you think your income is protected.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -

I shouldn't get wound up I know:o but sometimes I can't help it!0 -
There was a respectable argument that maybe people predicting house price crashes would be polite and not diminish the quality of other threads.
Mrs Vita's singlehandedly put paid to that theory I think.0
