I to have had the same rejectiong from Egg card. Saying the boxed was ticked by me. I have looked into cases where between 2000 and 2003, people who signed up online, did in fact have a pre-ticked box.
This letter was written to them by another member,
Dear Sirs,
Account number: xxxxx
I refer to my complaint with regards to the mis-sold insurance opened with my account.
Obviously you are now aware of the outcome of the recent high court ruling with regards to miss-selling of PPI insurance, and it has also come to my notice from well known consumer internet forums that in 2002 when I applied for the account online the insurance box was pre-selected and had to be un-selected by the customer if it were to be not required.
I do not feel your letter has offered a satisfactory justification that my policy was sold fairly, reasonably and within my best interests so I request that you look into my complaint again. If I do not receive a more favourable response from you within 14 days I will not hesitate in taking my complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service which may result in legal action being sought as part of the process.
Yours faithfully
AND GUESS WHAT!!! they had a full refund of over £2600 within weeks WITHOUT going FOS. This is my next step, let me know if anyone has success
Dan
My policy started in Feb 2004 so I guess EGG had changed the tick box by then?? But I cannot recall if it were ticked or not!?
I have already had one rejection letter from EGG but I think I may just try again. thanks0 -
I have just received a rejection letter ncluding the following section
After carrying out a full review of your account, I have established that you purchased the insurance through the Egg website on 2 September 2003
Our online sales process:
Does not require you to take repayment protection insurance as a condition of obtaining the credit card
Does not provide an advisory service
Required you to positively confirm that you wished to purchase the policy during the online application
Provided full terms and conditions of the policy and requested you read them before submitting
In light of above we are unable to uphold your complaint and confirm it has been closed
Has anyone else seen this in a reply?
The letter also states it is a final response0 -
Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me. Well I took out an Egg loan for £15k back in 2000. When I got my annual statement I noticed that I had been paying for PPI that I had not requested and was not aware of. I challenged them to refund the £800 they had charged me without my knowledge. The refused. this is nearly 12 years ago. Now I do not have any kind of paper work. I do not remember the exact dates, neither do I have the account number or statements. How do I go about this? How can I write to them with giving them the at least part of the necessary information? Appreciate any advise. Thanks0 -
Finally managed to track Egg down:)

I have recently received a letter from egg with my old loan account no from a loan taken out in 2004. I'm fairly sure I had PPI on this and now need to complete the form.
Having had a few loans and credit cards over the years, I remember being bullied into having PPI on most of them, however, if I write this on my complaint form and I am not thinking of the right company could I get in trouble? Similarly, I may have applied for this online so wouldn't have had a conversation with someone. I'm unsure whether to leave the details blank and hope for the best, or write the details to the best of my memory.
Any ideas?0 -
Received reply from Canada Square 2 weeks before Christmas upholding my claim and stating they owed me £558.As I'd been involved in an I.V.A (completed in Feb 2010)they required a copy of the completion certificate together with a signed acceptance form(included with the letter). The letter went on to say that if I was still in an ongoing IVA I would receive a cheque for £257 and they would adjust my account by the remaining £301.
The acceptance form supplied makes no mention of the completed IVA option, which is the case that applies to me,only the second option.
I have replied saying that I accept the offer in principle but am unwilling to sign the form as it is,as it looks as though I am signing away my right to the full payment. As yet I've heard nothing more and it's more than the 15-20 business days which was the time frame they quoted.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this situation as it appears Egg are accepting their responsibility only to try clawing back some cash by small print.0 -

I have received the exact same response. The box was pre-ticked and the account was opened in 2003 online. As it is a final response letter I guess I have no option other than to go to the ombudsman. It seems to me that Barclays/Eggs are just issuing a template refusal letter without even investigating the claim properly.0
