Morning all, well we've had a frantic couple of days. We booked 7 viewings for houses in the area we want to move to yesterday and on our way down, we got a phone call from our EA telling us that we had been offered our full asking price for our property. Still can't believe it, we did reduce the price to a realistic level and that is obviously what has done it, so the viewings were much more serious and the first one we looked at was a second viewing. We loved it even more this time and couldn't take the smiles off our faces as we walked round, the next 6 were a mixture of telling the EA there and then that it was a NO and others where we would think about it but nothing compared to the first property. On our way home we decided to stop in at the EA and put in an offer of £7K below the asking price - they had also reduced their original price by £20K, we have been waiting over night and about an hour ago got a call to say they will accept £5K below the asking price. OH and I are over the moon!!!!!!

We could not have contemplated buying this property if we hadn't cleared so much of our debts and we were discussing yesterday how much being DF gives you freedom over choices in practically every aspect of your life. We have a few niggly debts but aim to clear this with some of the equity in our house and start afresh.

A new house, fab holiday, debt free.......I couldn't have believed this would have happened a couple of years ago.

Just hope that the sale and purchase go through and there aren't any hiccups to trip us up!

    Hi dhassen

By very, very hard work, being totally committed to debt repayment, cutting back spending, accounting for every penny. We ebayed our hearts out, I worked many extra shifts at work mainly nights to earn more money. We also have a good joint income and once we got rid of the smaller debts which we did do very soon on, we were able to concentrate on paying off the larger debts with big sums of around £700-£800 per month each.

I keep saying this though and I mean it, it is not easy and there is no quick fix. It's a painful process especially if you love to shop like I do! We aren't there at the finishing line yet though and we have fallen off the wagon a few times it's just how you address those 'mishaps' is what makes the difference.

Good luck but there is no secret formula I'm afraid.

Good for you! I have found this forum an amazing source of inspiration, support and a general kick up the backside. I love it here and will probably stay around forever!!!! I have to say I think I would have slipped back into the bad habits long ago if it hadn't been for DFW's here.

yea I agree.... I don't think I'd have ever got going about clearing our debt if it wasn't for this site, and although I come on sporadically, its a real boost and I'm sure I'll be here when my total debt = 0 :)

Well so far so good with the house business thingy. We have our survey on the property we're buying tomorrow and our buyers have booked theirs for our house on Wednesday. We did have a bizzare phonecall from our EA today though. The first couple that looked at our house last week (who put in an offer but couldn't proceed) phoned the EA this morning to ask if our house was still for sale, they told them that it was now under offer so they put in an offer over the asking price. When the EA told us we rejected it as we accepted an offer last week and surveys are booked etc and I think gazzumping morally wrong, (what comes around goes around/ karma etc). It's good that they are interested in case things go t*&^ up but we have sent a letter to our EA asking thme to take our property off the market today.

  • Astonishing stuff!!!! That has to be one of the biggest pieces of debt reduction I've ever seen - and in such a short time too.

    Amazing!
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
