Hi guys, I could really do with some oldstyle wisdom on this one. Quick stocktake of things she can eat includes sweetcorn, peas, tinned tuna, couscous, tinned tomatoes, tomato puree, english mustard, rye bread, potato, yellow pepper and a few basic store cupboard ingredients. I'm afraid I wouldn't be worrying too much about likes and dislikes! Describing herself as a pescatarian then saying she doesn't like fish is, to my mind, sheer fussiness. I would go with egg salad for lunch and steamed fish for dinner, and she could either eat it or go hungry!0

I've been bed-changing and pondering your dilemma!!! What did come to mind was a nice homemade fresh tomato sauce with chopped up vegetables (roasted, if you have the time) with chunks of fish poached gently in the sauce right at the end so they don't overcook. Serve over boiled or steamed rice or rice noodles.
Egg fried rice also seemed to be ok, with stir fried veggies, handful of frozen peas for colour and a tin of tuna or handful of prawns added at the end.
If she can eat eggs, a nice omelette with your homemade chunky oven chips would be tasty.
Gram flour is always handy to have in, makes pakoras or bhajis so quickly. Mix up some batter with it, dunk chopped up vegetables to coat lightly, then fry in shallow oil to brown and crispy, turning frequently.

With a child with so many dietary requirements, I would have expected her mum to provide some guidance, last minute or not.
Just an example of the easiest meals she makes for her daughter would've been sufficient.0 -

Is this recipe for sweetcorn fritters any help?...if her wheat intake is reduced due to mums choice rather than not allowed at all then perhaps the 100gm flour in the recipe would be ok..or can you buy rye flour?

When my kids were young [ they are 29 and 27 now] and friends were over I always did a tea/ lunch that was made up of bowls of different things so they could pick and choose what they wanted eg cucumber slices, sausages, cheese cubes, apple slices. celery sticks, tuna, jacket potatoes. That way there was no problem about what they didn't like as they made the choiceWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

Thank you for all the suggestions. When I rephrased the fish with breadcrumb to fish fingers she said she likes them. So dinner is back on!!
I love the idea of a buffet for lunch. I will do boiled eggs and both like those, with wholemeal soldiers, cucumber and pepper sticks and cheese sticks. They can pick and choose and it is more fun. Shame about the sugar as was going to do some baking with them when the baby went down for his morning nap.
It is hard these days with so many allergies, intolerances and varying degrees of food choices. According to her mum, she doesn't have sugar as she is up all night, the yeast is because of recurring yeast infections and she is allergic to mushrooms and raisins. Then there are the usual childhood likes and dislikes. I am so glad that my kids don't have allergies and eat pretty much anything I put in front of them!

Cooking mama, those sweetcorn fritters look yummy! I had some ages ago in a restaurant and they were gorgeous so will definitely be trying out that recipe. Will be good for the baby too as he will be able to feed himself them."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0
