Probably foriegn vehicles...... So you need an MOT pass to register a foriegn vehicle as UK do you? You can't say it will be SORN from the start?

……..The law is not really that clear and insurance companies can be vague - but I've always understood it that if you drive without a valid MOT, it would invalidate your insurance……..

Jeannie, the law is clear and insurance companies are not vague, your insurance policy is a contract which lays out the rights and responsibilities of both parties.

If it says “no MOT = no insurance” that that is was you get, if it says “not roadworthy = no insurance” then that is what you get.

The only way this is going to get resolved is if people actually read their policies and report back

My current one (Prudential) says “you must keep your car roadworthy”

My previous one (Elephant) says “you must make sure your car is roadworthy….If an accident happens and the condition of the vehicle caused or contributed to the accident, cover will be restricted to our liability under the Road Traffic Act.

My works van (Cornhill) says “you must keep your vehicle in a roadworthy condition”

None of them mention MOT so that’s 3/0 to the anti “No MOT=No insurance” side

    Any advance?

Interesting qu. Yes I think so because they'll use the chassis number.

But it'll fail the MOT unless it's exempt from displaying them.
