Vaio;
I think you will find regardless of the nit picking that a lack of An Mot will result in your insurance company regarding your vehicle as being in a non roadworthy condition.
Many of them are now demanding to see service records inthe result of an accident to prove you have endeavored to keep it roadworthy.
No pass no fee MOT stations;
this used to be quite common, and nothing to do with DVLA.
There is one near me in Andover, I used to use an MOT centre that did soley this in Penge , London SE20, don`t know if its still there.
One used to be able to turn up and wait.
There is more BS from the motor trade about MOT test than anything else, bar selling you a car0 -

On the contrary, I think you will find that no MOT is not = Insurance void. Only recently there was a thread on here someone worried their car had an accident whilst driven with no MOT (she had booked MOT the following week but had to drive the car for whatever reason). Some doom and gloomers on here shouted at her "NO MOT = no insurance - prepare for a very big bill" other people on here said "No MOT does not invalidate insurance, at least not on all insurance companies...don't panic until you have talked to your insurer".
She reported back to the thread, the insurnce company had said she WAS insured but that they must expect the value of the car to be diminished because it has no MOT, which was a very fair point to make.0 -
The answer for OP is very simple. IF the car is to be used or kept on the highway, it must have valid for the day of use all of the following
MOT
Insurance
Road Tax
It must also be in a roadworthy condition for the time of day e.g. night/day0 -
No pass MOT / No fee must be a rare find these days, you will be lucky to find "no retest fee" but these are thankfully starting to become more common now..
Nothing to do with VOSA, an MOT station can charge what they like for a test as long as it is not more than the statutory test fee, including free of charge if they wish. They can also include free retests with whatever terms and conditions they like. But they must abide by the VOSA rules for free retests aswell.0 -
Wig, I caannot see the logic of your 6.37 post; driving a car with out a valid MOT is an OFFENCE.
for any reason
No arguing
It should not even be parked on the road.
The only way you can do this is to an MOT test with a prior appointment;this must be to the nearest MOT test station, by the shortest practible route.
returning by the same route if it has failed, no deviation allowed.
The advice that person received was faulty, or misunderstood.
You are suggesting that the insurance company was condoning an offence?0 -

Just plain wrong….
MOT is not needed going to or from prearranged test or going to or from prearranged repairs. No mention in the law of nearest MOT station, it does say direct route but there is a case allowing stopping for petrol and parking on road for 10 mins to buy fags whilst on the way to test.
Insurance: I can’t think of any circumstances in which an insurance company can avoid paying third parties.
If you are claiming for damage to your own car the question of roadworthiness does arise. If the accident was contributed to by a vehicle fault, say you skidded into a ditch because of bald tyres then the insurance company have a reason to not pay for the damage to your car but they would pay any third party you hit during the skid.
If the fault did not contribute to the accident then they have to pay but you will end up with a payout that reflects the reduced value of your car due to the fault. So if you skidded into a ditch but your car was un-roadworthy by virtue of having a cracked windscreen, missing exhaust and lights that didn’t work then they would pay up but the payout would reflect the reduced value of the car due to the faults.0 -

As far as thrd party cover is concerned I also cannot think of any circumstance where a car with valid insurance will not be covered for TP losses, i.e. even if the car is unroadworthy.
For policy holder losses, the car must be in a roadworthy condition, they make no mention of MOT or road tax. those are issues for the police, the insurance company does not condone or condemn such issues, they are only concerned with the car being roadworthy i.e. mechanically good condition.for any reason

My own policy books from Pru, and previous insurers all say "roadworthy condition" with no mention of MOT/VED. Why don't you phone your insurer and ask them, "Would I be covered if I have no MOT or No VED?"0 -
Funnily enough, I had l this debate with my insurance company [Highway] their answer was an emphatic NO MOT = Cover invalid.
As to the route to an MOT station, for a vehicle I suggest some of you read the authentic Road Traffic Act. not a digest.
Its something I have to do all the time with unregistered ,un MOT'd vehicles, in order to qualify for a registration mark.
What is required is insurance.
I arrange insurance, but it is valid minimum 3rd party cover only for the duration of that trip, which is all that the insurance co will grant in these circumstances.
Any one who knows of a company that will issue full comp insurance for an untaxed unregistered un MOT'd vehicle on its way to a test, in order to qualify for these items will they please let me know?0 -
sometimes the MOT runs out whilst the car tax is still on. should we have the car re-Motted BEFORE the tax disk runs out or can this be done as and when we need to renew the MOT. just a debate partner and i have ! thanks
Sorry, you've not made it at all clear here what you are asking/suggesting, and folks are jumping to conclusions. I think youve mixed up tax and mot in some way. Suggest you clarify, or if you were asking what most people think you were asking, well you should have got the message:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Are you a blithering idiot? They're asking if the MOT has run out before the tax disc, should they get the car re-MOT'd?0
