Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that even with an auction where the IDs are private, the sellers can still see who's bidding on their items? I always thought the IDs were just hidden to other buyers but not the seller?
You're right. Hiding the bidders IDs from other bidders makes Ebay a shill bidding paradise. If I was bidding on an item I'd like to see who I'm bidding against."A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -
It's still a good place for buyers who take a minute to actually read the description... and bulk sellers. But that's it.
As has been pointed out elsewhere, the new rules are helping to turf out the dodgy sellers...I hope. My hunch is that those who get suspended simply ditch that account and start again, like the HK powersellers when their percentage falls to about 96%.
As a small-time seller, my new strategy is to sell things all in one go. This way, if some numpty does neg me for no reason whatsoever and get suspended because of the 5% rule, at least it doesn't affect any other listings, because they've already finished and I'll have been paid too.0 -

You should at least be able to see the IDs of items you bid on !!

It has gone too far, you can't even see IDs on items you bid on.

This was to stop spoof winning bid and second chance emails being sent, a lot of people were getting stung by this.
You can check on shill bidding by going to the number of bids page, it gives detailed information on the bidding patterns of seller and other bidders, a much simpler way of checking for shill bidding and still easy to report..0 -

When I went to bids page, hovered over bidder, a small window would appear with a summary.
That does not appear anymore.

I cannot see the bidding patterns window anymore on the bids page.

Click on each bidder and it is there. If you are the seller you can still hover over the bidders and see details..0 -
eBay introduces absolute anonymity for (shill) bidders
In Australia, the UK, Ireland and the Philippines, eBay has obscured auction bidding to the point that genuine bidders have got absolutely no chance of detecting and thereby protecting themselves from “shill” bidding (a criminal offence in most civilised countries) by unethical vendors. Notwithstanding eBay’s statements to the contrary, this application of absolute anonymity (ie, Bidder 1, Bidder 2, etc) by eBay on these sites serves absolutely no purpose other than to deceive consumers by making even any otherwise obvious shill bidding undetectable; and the same criticism has always been applicable to eBay’s other shill bidders’ facility, “User ID kept private”. Again, notwithstanding eBay’s various pronouncements about shill bidding being banned on eBay, eBay is now effectively (and knowingly) “aiding and abetting” such shill bidders on these sites, at the expense of consumers. For those of you with a longer attention span, a lengthy critical analysis of this matter appears at:

I apologise in advance for the length of the above-linked “rant”. If you are an unethical shill-bidding seller or a buyer who is not concerned that on the above-mentioned national sites eBay is effectively “aiding and abetting” such shill-bidding sellers to cheat you, read no further.

It is ridiculous this complete anonymity.

Recalculating Feedback percentages without neutrals
Effective in late August, neutrals will no longer be counted as part of the Feedback percentage. This means we will be recalculating Feedback percentages retroactively for users worldwide. In the interim, no one will lose their PowerSeller status as a result of neutrals being included in their Feedback percentage.
