I find it quite ironic that some people on a website about consumer revenge get all upset about... ah no, wait, I see... and they say humans are fundamentally selfish... :D;)

    ).

In the case of ebay though the sellers are the customers of ebay not the buyers  As a seller I use ebay as a venue and pay for the privelege, making me ebay's customer.

Buyers have no such relationship with ebay, they sign up and pay nothing. If they pay nothing then it is harder to argue that they are the customers in the same way that sellers are.

My buyers are my customers, not ebays.

Sorry but personally (as a buyer aka the selfish consumer) I think it's quite a good idea, I know that a few times I haven't left neutral or negative feedback for fear of revenge.

It was the people that refused to leave feedback for fear of a neg that effectively broke the system in the first place - they were afraid to speak the truth and be honest, for fear of ruining a score, that as a buyer, is completely meaningless anyway. The term "Feedback pu55y" (word censor!!!!) is frequently used in this situation.
Ebay has changed for the worst, I remember around 5-6 years ago when I first started buying on ebay sellers would leave feedback on despatch/clearance of payment. Nowadays I leave feedback first and sometimes wait a few weeks to get sellers feedback. Some of the excuses I've read in various places for this are the very same reason why ebay has changed the system - "I don't give feedback first in case the buyer gives me negative or neutral".
Again, it was buyers who failed to communicate properly that led to this problem. 99% of all issues should be resolved amicably with an email or two, but far too many buyers used feedback as a problem reporting tool, thus spoiling it for everyone else. That's why sellers changed their feedback strategy - especially when ebay announced that neutrals were equal to negatives in regards seller performance measuring.
Ebay was build on trust, this was facilitated by the feedback system, but trust is gone and feedback is broken and sadly I suspect trust was the first to go.
It is certainly broken beyond repair now that the changes have been announced. Why should a decent buyer with a 100% record have the same privileges and status as an idiot buyer - who will also have 100%. What's the point of feedback, when all you can say is one thing? feedback should be constructive, and the new system is far from that.
I know more or less when something will be delivered and when I need to get something sent to a different address (e.g. work) I don't get the unverified address problems (another symptom of lack of trust).
If you have one verified address on your Paypal account, all subsequent addresses will also be confirmed. I have plenty of goods delivered to work addresses all over the country, and each time I change the delivery address in Paypal, it shows as confirmed. Remember there is a difference between verified members and confirmed addresses...

Sellers not sending goods to unconfirmed addresses is not so much a lack of trust but more sellers complying with Paypals terms in order to have the little protection that paypal give them.
If a seller posts an item to an unconfirmed address and the buyer does a charge back, the seller will automatically lose their goods and/or their money because paypal will side with the buyer.

Apologies if this has been posted, but I haven't been watching the discussion very closely.

I just heard that there's a planned strike, 18th-25th Feb.

    There's a group on facebook:

    http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=7816169769&ref=nf

Get a load of the video the group links to - I'm shocked that an ebay CEO can hold its customer in such apparent disdain.

I am a seller on ebay and I use a buyer feedback as a judge to see if they are 'waste of space' buyers. I've blocked around 40 buyers in the past 6 month from buying off us due to their negs from other sellers due to a variety of dodgy dealings and scamming.

How is a seller suppose to spot these waste of space buyers if every single one get 100% feedback and no negs? It is idiotic..

This also means competitors can sign up, dont pay for goods and neg you and you cannot do anything about it. All the rubbish regarding ebay potentially removing users is bullcrap and we all know it. These do not actively do this now and any negs that a buyer may put in now before suspension are not removed.. So can you see them improving the situation in the future... and think not...

So they actually think that this feedback rubbish and the increase in overall fees which is further persecuting the seller will in the long run make sellers want to sell on ebay? are they really that stupid??

WHY CANNOT GOOGLE BRING AN AUCTION SITE ONLINE FOR US TO MIGRATE TO?? ebay needs a serious competitor... the likes of ebid / tazbar and the others do not have the exposure of google to challenge ebay at all

We should all switch to ebid and spread the word for everyone to use them. They are great - just need more awareness.

As a basic seller you can sell for FREE. I recommend everyone has a look!!!
  • Soolin are you not a power seller with £100+ fees I would have thought your volume would be high enough - It does depend on what you sell I suppose.

As a powerseller I am horrified at this. Also with the Detailed Seller ratings fee reduction you receive a discount if you have over 4.6, but they round them up, so as I see it you have basically got to have 5* to get the discount. The only thing I can see is I previously had a seller account for new that I send details to tax office, a seller account for second hand used things and a buyer account. I will merge all these and if I get a few negs then i will buy small things to raise my %.

patchwork,my sales are not consistent so although i list about 100 items a month I maybe actually only sell about 80% so don't hit the 100 sales a month over a 3 month period to qualify.
