I can't believe these new rules!!!! They are ridiculous. I had a spate of selling lots of old stuff out of my cupboards last year and a few pain in the bum buyers really put me off. Luckily its mostly cleared now, and I think i'll be doing a boot sale if I get any more in the future. The odd thing I will sell, I won't be that bothered about the new rules, but if I was a proper seller with business etc like a lot of you i'd be FURIOUS. I was naffed off enough with a few idiotic buyers last year who want everything for nothing despite repeated warnings of "do not bid if you are not happy with the terms" grr @ ebay....but its paypal I hate even more!!!

I think ebay have started looking at this already....
I put some items from my TL on last Friday but wasn't able to load more than 25 unless I clarified my account as personal or business. As I only sell second hand personal goods it wasn't a problem. I did however notice that they class large volumes as business sales. That's a bit unfair of you're having a clearout. What do they call large volumes - more than 25?? I think I'll stick to 25 items or less now so ebay don't assume I'm a business seller (although my listings are obviously not - all second hand and no multiples). I have being buying and selling for 5 years now and this is the first time since I have had to clarify my account during listing upload for more than 25 items.:cool:0 -
We used to get some messages from customers because they did not like the results, but the things we sell work on most people but on some they might not suit them, so we offer a test it first to see if it works - if it doesn't we accept it back for refund although we have to then bin the item as we cant resell after being used. However some customers still use the whole thing and then complain if it does not look like they hoped - kind of like sending a tester lipstick with original but they use the entire original and then complain the colour does not suit them. Only a small percent of customers at most do this but some of the emails have been very cheeky - if I still sold on ebay (stopped when I heard these rules) under these new rules I would have negs left right and centre because someone could not be bothered to test the item first (is also advised incase of allergy as is a cosmetic type item). We dont have to give the option to check results/colour look first but we do to be nice and so customer can return for a refund if not happy, but they still complain because they ignored the rules and now I would not be able to neutral or neg back saying they did not follow instructions on ebay, instructions on invoice and also warning to test first on actual product instructions!! Note not heard of allergic reaction to any of our items but its more to see if they like the item and it looks ok on them - something we are being nice in offering as cosmetic shops etcs dont let you take an item back because the colour does not suit you! There are bad sellers around but my god there are bad buyers too - obviously ebay have never had any bad customers!!!Some People Live & Learn, Some People Just Live...0

The way I see this is that if I buy something from a powerseller and he fails to send it to me then I can't do a charge back and I lose both my money and the item and the seller gets away with it. Have I understood correctly or am I missing something here?
I'm pretty sure this isn't right - by providing a guarantee, eBay / PayPal should be absorbing any costs. So, a buyer could still do a chargeback (as is their right) but, if the seller provides a tracking number and says they've shipped the item, PayPal will be the ones to lose out.
This is how it should be in my opinion, rather than sellers being regularly defrauded. I'm guessing they've chosen to apply this guarantee to Powersellers because they have stats to show that these are the most reliable group, who are unlikely to "take advantage" of the guarantee.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
I can see that this might be good news for powersellers who are subject to fraudulent charge-backs, but what about buyers. I buy and sell on ebay so I'm not biased towards buyers. If that's the case I don't think it's as good an idea as stevew8975 seems to think because not all buyers are scammers and the honest ones will lose out (and not all sellers who don't have powerseller status are scammers either although that's what ebay seems to imply).

It is Paypal that will be absorbing the cost of chargebacks, not the buyer, who still receives a refund under the buyer protection policy. Not all powersellers are a "he" either, such seems to be the stereotype around these parts!!!
I agree, not all buyers are scammers, but under the new feedback system, sellers will have no way of knowing who is and who isn't. I'm sure you as a decent buyer would not like to be tarred with the same brush as a scamming buyer, but in the future you will both have 100% feedback, so how can a seller tell the difference? Why should you have the same rights and status as a scammer?
Although this new policy is designed to be fairer to buyers, it is actually bringing the decent buyers down to the level of the scammers, and sellers will be more wary than ever before.
There is already discussion on the eBay boards about people who will take great pleasure in destroying 100% records - these people are serious too. Even though they may never have received a neg in their lives, they seem to think that being a vigilante for the rest of the buyers makes it acceptable.
This new paypal policy goes some way in helping the sellers protect themselves from the increased exposure they will face from May.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

Sorry I don't understand (and can you please lose the red it gives me eye strain). If paypal are involved what's with the cheque? If someone pays by paypal you refund them by paypal on the return of the item. If someone pays by cheque you refund them by cheque (again when item is returned) and so paypal couldn't possibly be interested if your buyer paid by cheque.
Yes we can blame ebay and paypal for lots of things, and stick around because we whinge a lot on here!! but we can't blame them when we haven't understood how to use the systems.
I would strongly suggest that if you are new to ebay that you do some of the tutorials about how it all works. Or of course you can hang out on here and you'll pick it all up in no time.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Out of curiousity, why did you refund her by cheque, if she paid by paypal? Paypal have only done what their T&C's dictate - buyer makes payment by Paypal, therefore they are refunded by Paypal. If the seller decides to send a cheque as well, then how are Paypal to know this?<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0
