Poppped into Halifax this morning to pay the £100 I intended to pay in yesterday - so that I get the overdraft matched by A&L - and they upgraded my current account to 6.5% as I have (just) £1000 a month going in. Would they be so friendly if they knew I am going to be closing the account?!
Am spending far too long on the computer - now got into doing the pigsback free comps and bought a book through quidco last night (yes, bought a book - oh dear!)
I am going to pop over to the loans board to ask about getting the insurance component on my loan removed.
Thanks to all the people who have helped me since began my debt-free journey.:TDebt free by 22 January 2009 - thanks to an unexpected inheritance - take heart - it DOES HAPPEN!0 -
Just a thought--if you get housing benefit, wont it be increased to cover some of the extra rent if you get the new flat?Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0

Yes - might do - but will have to wait and see because it is a different district council - and depends on the old 'eligible rent' thing. I am a borderline person - almost earn too much to get benefit, but not quite. I am currently getting £38 a week with £11 a week deducted for previous over-payments. Also wonder if when I leave the district my overpayments will all become due for payment in one go...... cross that bridge when I get to it.
Met the landlady today - and she liked me - so the flat is mine. We ARE moving. As soon as I get the contract I will apply for housing benefit (well, I might work out first if I think I am eligible - I have the Big Books so can do the calcs).
So now I am surrounded by boxes and brown tape again - packing up. I still don't know how I am going to pay the moving costs - £1300 to move in, plus the other stuff like mail re-direction and transport for stuff. I just want to put my head under the duvet until it's all over!
Can't do that though can I? I'm a Grown Up - gotta be sensible etc etc. Gave my son a talking today cos he was being very bolshy and adolescent about the inconvenience of estate agents coming to look at the house and the possibility of being disconnected to the internet for a day or two. I told him that I also felt it was an inconvenience, but necessary - so get over it! Because I need him to be supportive. I'm not bloody superwoman!:pDebt free by 22 January 2009 - thanks to an unexpected inheritance - take heart - it DOES HAPPEN!0 -
I have an unsecured personal loan with Halifax which I took out in 2006 £5,000 + £1,400 insurance loan - payable over 86 months.
I read about canceling the insurance and wrote to them back in December but did not get a reply. I think from what I have gleaned here, that I will have to take out another loan without insurance to pay off the one with insurance.....
I posted this over on the loans board (after reading all the stickys and articles and still not finding an answer - it's not about reclaiming PPI) - and no-body picked up the question. Anyone here got any experience on this - sure you have!Debt free by 22 January 2009 - thanks to an unexpected inheritance - take heart - it DOES HAPPEN!0 -

What are you eating now then? late lunch or early breakfast? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
It's shocking isn't it! I think you said you had two daughters of teenage - my son is upstairs plugged into his computer, and I'm down here plugged into mine - we hardly see each other! I've just eaten two TWO bags of Hula-Hoops (junk food BOGOFS) whilst considering what I might cook for tea - probably end up grazing all evening then regretting it.
Does your £3,800 for 2008 include rent/mortgage payments - or just grocery and fuel and stuff?Debt free by 22 January 2009 - thanks to an unexpected inheritance - take heart - it DOES HAPPEN!0 -
Hiya bountiful. Can't help with the loan thing - I thought you could reclaim this insurance but I don't know the ins and outs.
Glad to hear you got the flat but what a horrible lot of money to find!
Some people on here have made lots of money with online bingo introductory bonuses - see hypno's diary for example - I'm too chicken myself but maybe you're made of braver stuff.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
