  • Hi Beanilou - yes, my friend practises Nichiren Buddhism (and so do I - 20+ yrs) (are you a Buddhist?) - and whilst we were at the meeting I started talking to someone with big debt problems and I was able to tell them about this site.

The Kalms seem to be helping (I have found Quite Life tablets good in the past, but my local chemist only had Kalms - as they were by Lanes I thought I'd try them).

Had a bit of a mental day money-wise and handed over £1367.50 in CASH to the letting agents in order to get the tenancy of new place to live. I have now created (temporarily I hope) more debt by using the new credit card to pay off the old credit card, then using the old credit card again to withdraw cash on three consecutive days to get enough dosh together to pay the rent, deposit and fees. Swiftly followed by CHOCOLATE!

Found some great curtains in charity shop - so that's good. Accompained my friend taking her car through the car wash and screamed our heads off under the foam, power-wash and brushes - that got rid of some stress alright!:rotfl:

I rang round van-hire companies and got some quotes, then thought about how the hell I was really going to lift all my possessions from my house, down the lane, into a van, drive 12 miles east, unload the van and carry all my possessions down the steps into my new abode........ and decided to ask a local removals firm to come and give me a quote. It will probably cost me another £250-£300 quid - but protect me and my friends from wrecking our bodies by trying to lift things unprofessionally and without the muscle-power. Am I mad, or what? My DFW journey is on hold. Payday should get me back on track, plus my landlord returning my deposit - then son paying me his share when he gets his next student-loan payment in April......

    Watch this space.

Yikes, £1367 how scary! Hope it all flows smoothly back into your account with no hitches.

I quite agree - get someone else to carry all your stuff when you move. But a shame to fork out £300. Does your son have some strong friends you could bribe to do it for just the price of a drink or two?

Apparently not! Suddenly they are all 'artistic weeds' - hmm. Never mind - I will be stimulating the local economy by paying a young man who is trying to build up a removal business.;)

  • Do I ache!! I have been packing boxes and using muscles I didn't know I still had!

I have had an appalling headache for the past three days, and had to come home sick from work on Tuesday. Managed to attend a training day on Wednesday - which was sitting still all day - almost gave up at lunch time, but managed to battle through it. Then today, couldn't face going to college, so stayed home - but did go out and meet my mentee at lunch-time, because I felt I could not let him down.

I don't know where the money has come from - the second credit card arrived just at the right time - I had to draw cash from it and on the third day the ATM refused me - I phoned the Post Office Credit Card (Bank of Ireland) and asked for a balance etc - and she said they had blocked it because the behaviour was suspicious. Once I had explained that I was trying to move house before payday, she unblocked it for me and it was fine - I got all the money together about half-an-hour before I had to hand it over to the letting agents.

I have amassed (temporarily I hope) an additional £1500 debt on the new credit card which was supposed to be for doing a balance transfer from the existing credit card. Well - I could not have done it without the credit - and I would rather owe the Halifax than a friend. Once I have moved I think I will sit down and work out a new SOA. I have now kept a month's spending diary - which is a bit distorted because of the house move, which is an extraordinary expense - but it has been really helpful to look at how much I spend on food, household, misc, transport etc.

I got my payslip today - and it always seems so disappointing for the amount of work I feel I do: £976.48 net. That ain't gonna go far! My rent is £625 - I can feel a SOA coming on!

I will copy out my original SOA and see how much moving house will have changed it. Another thing I haven't yet done is get my Experian report - part of me would rather not know - what difference will it make?

Hey! I am not sure where a Buddhist thread could go - maybe we don't need one anyway? I guess we could always Private Message each other with faith-based stuff. I wonder how many other Buddhists there are on here? People don't talk about religion on MSE much do they? Maybe that's right - keep religion and politics out of it? You have been around the boards quite a bit by the look of it - what do you think?
