HI bountiful, I'm sure it's just a blip with A&L, as I remember they guarantee to match your existing overdraft limit if you can show that you were in credit at some point in the last three days. It worked for me - and my limit is £3750. I had to post in a statement. Do ask them.
Glad to hear you are feeling more in control and better about things. Onwards and upwards!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Keren29 - r u there? I have been back to whatsthecost and tried to fiddle about with the snowball tool - it only shows me paying off the credit card (which I chose to do first) - once that is paid off, it doesn't transfer the extra available money to paying off the next debt - if you get what I mean. Is that how it usually works on whatsthecost - or am I doing something wrong? I put in 0% overdraft - and that reduced my dfd to 210 months instead of 1200, but then when I increased my payments from £200 to £300 it still showed 210 months - can you help me use this facility more effectively?Debt free by 22 January 2009 - thanks to an unexpected inheritance - take heart - it DOES HAPPEN!0

I have had my snowball question answered by starting another thread - search for snowballs on this forum and you will find it.
Basically, I have reduced my dfd to 93 months from 1200 months by transferring my overdraft to a 0% account, and increasing my monthly payback by £50 (due to moving closer to work and reducing travel costs etc).
I today snowballed my credit card with £90 (instead of the minimum payment of £33) and that felt good
I went round the Co-op at 8pm and bought BOGOF - spent £8 and saved £4 (I have enough loo rolls to last the month!) On the way home in the rain I found 20p on the ground (I thought I asked the Universe for £2 coins - it got the 2 right - need to add another 0!) anyway - I'm not dissing it - 20p is 20p and it was free to me! Tee hee!
PS - sorry for starting up that sticky thread again - gosh, just stuck my head over the parapet and look what a war was still going on there?! Won't do that again! Please forgive me.
PPS - is this becoming a diary? well - SO? Am I bovvered? NoooooooDebt free by 22 January 2009 - thanks to an unexpected inheritance - take heart - it DOES HAPPEN!0 -
Great news about the snowball - and I'm sure you'll make it quicker than 93 months too. And Great news that this is becoming a diary, I will read it with interest!
Did A&L match your overdraft limit?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
What a great htread. You seem to be sorting yourself out.I also got a shock when I used the snowball calculator  .I'm trying to save each month to pay off a little more.I'm lucky that I'm on token payments with no interest. My plan is to save extra cash ing building society then offer full and final payment offers on my debt to try to get them down a bit.
Good luck to youlost my way but now I'm back ! roll on 2013

Seaxwyn: Checked through A&L blurb and can see that I have to send a statement less than a month old showing my present level of overdraft. So as soon as I get my January statement I will send it off to the 'Switching Centre' and they should do it. Didn't get into town to the bank to ask in person - decided to cycle up to the beach instead - really needed to see the sea and get some exercise.
Have just heard from Halifax that my application for a 0% for 9 months credit card has been accepted - contract in the post. That's good news - can pay off the Post Office credit card and close that account.

Nice one bountiful! Sounds like things are really going your way. Are you sure you just can't ring A&L to get the overdraft sorted quicker...the sooner you have it the less interest you will be paying and more debt you will be paying off!

HI bountiful. As I remember it you need to send both proof of your current O/D limit and a statement showing you were in credit at some point in the last 3 months. Bike ride to the beach sounds good, lucky you living in beautiful Kernow.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
