As I understand it, the person is insured, not the car. It is illegal for a person not to have insurance for the car they are driving. If your policy say you can drive other cars then you can.Torgwen..........

If your policy say you can drive other cars then you can.
No you can't.
You can't drive it if it isn't taxed or correctly MOTed.
There are other requirements as well.
We will have to politely disagree on this.
My understanding is that you cannot drive an uninsured car on the "3rd party" bit of your insurance.
My advice to the person asking the question is that you MUST ask your insurance company.
Do not rely on what you read on bulletin boards where people have different opinions (unless anyone can provide a proper legal resource).0 -
I was pleasantly suprised with Tesco's on-line quote. I ended up saving £150
.
However, whilst filling out the on line forms there was one box asking for a promo code. I have checked a variety of sources and am unable to find any. Does anyone have any ideas of where one can find a cheeky promo code"I think I spent 72.75% of my life last year in the office. I need a new job!!"0 -
I tried Privilege due to the advert about it beating any quote and they we the cheapest (I tried about 20 myself!) and then the supermarket one so this one was the winner.0

How about joining a club for the particular make of car you drive. CGTI for VW or RSOC for Ford etc most of these offer anything from 10 - 25% off your insurance premium, and the cost of joining is far out weighed by the savings you can make.0

large insurers tend to work towards conversion targets, therefore it may pay to wait till the last few days of a month/quarter till you get your quotes, they may offer discounted quotes if they are close to target and need your business.0

Also, although it may have been mentioned before on this site (?) dont renew your car insurance during the peak months June through to November as this is when prices are at their highest. If your renewal date falls during this time cancel your policy (if possible, most are) around jan to march and shop around,(advise shopping around first) you may find that your current insurer could be as much as £100 + cheaper at this time of the year as business is at its quietest and most competitive.0

Car Insurance.
I drive a 1990 Ford Sierra estate 1.8 My Comprehensive insurance with legal cover and No Claim Bonus protection. £103.50. I got this because I am a member of my local Credit Union, Averege saving is about 36%
Last year I insured a car for my 20 year old Son. Insurance was £780 I got it through the Credit Union for £480. Join your credit union, That will cost you £1, They do very cheap loans and all sorts of great money saving insurances.
My Insurance is with Norwich Union.
Re My £103.50 insurance, I am 66, Live on the Kent coast and I have 70% NCB so the cost depends on where you live and all the other stuff that insurance companies base their quotes on.
I am not too good at using this site yet but I will improve.
I had a question. How do I find my Credit Union?
Answer: Go to: https://www.abcul.coop That should do it, I had a problem on this site but they have a contact address.
Since posting my tip I have been back to the insurance to get a add on quote for any driver over 25 years old. they quoted me £26.230 -
Can anyone clarify the legality of this(referring to an article of October 18th on this post)?
If you are insured fully comp on your own car and covered to drive any vehicle, third party, with owners permission, can you drive, for instance, a car owned and registered by your wife even if the car itself is not insured? It would be possible to tax this car if wife had her own insurance and this was a third car in the family by getting a temporary insurance cover for second vehicle.
Hope this makes sense but is it legal?0
