Thank you for your motivating comments - I have just read that by going bankrupt it won't be a way out - not that actually I want that way out because I know we have not been overpaid - I just didn't sign the forms. I wonder how many other people are fighting because of the same reason? I wonder how many people do read their forms
I WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT.........!!!
You know I do wish that our MPs and those that made decisions read these forums.................and I have to say yesterday i felt like S*** and was doing the old "whatever" , now I have found a bit more fight. It is only since I found this site that I have become more aware of my financial situation and the trouble I have got myself into - some my own total spendthrift stupidity, some laziness but most just niavity.

Just went on that petiitions site - thought it may not help me but could help others in the future - very concerned not many signatures on there, so i have forwarded it on to all my friends as a link to try and get it filled up like other petitions have been in the past.Aim to win in 2013 - a holiday somewhere nice, New York break, treats for family & friends & some cash would be lovely!!!0

Hi all
I have had a letter from tax credits replying to my appeal against overpayment.
THey admit it was all their fault. THey say it was a computer error.
I called and asked if this money was really mine and they said yes. I am a single parent, not on means tested benefits but on a low income, and with a disability.
I had emergency electrical repairs done to my home.
They now say I have to pay it all back.
It is disgusting the way they are treating people.
I have had over 30 notices in 3 years and a £25 cheque as an apology for their mistakes 2 years ago, now they say I owe them £700.
I guess I have to keep fighting this, but it is hard going. Sometimes I get between 3 and 5 letters all in the same post all saying different things.
Im sad there are so many of us in this situation.

Hi Everyone,
I got back from the school run this morning to find SIX letters from tax credits waiting for me..Why do they have to send copies for me and my other half-Madness!
The first two are final tax credit decisions for 2004-2005, the next two copies are final tax credit decisions for 2005-2006, and the final two are amended tax credit award notices for 2006-2007. I have no idea why I have them from as far back as 04-05.
I have been out of work now for the last four weeks, I rang as soon as I was laid off, and informed them I would no longer need the help with the childminding fees during the school hols, or the help towards the extra pre school nursery fees, this now means our income for the new tax year has dropped by £7000. Imagine my shock, when at the foot of the letter it states that the payments are changing to ZERO for April, £4.46 for May, and £42.23 per month from June. Plus I have been overpayed £80.00 for this award, how can that be, when I have informed them of every change throughout the year??0 -
Hi
For all those going through appeals about Tax Credits my advice is to persist with it and don't give up. I was overpayed almost £2000 which apparently was a computer error. I had two appeals turned down and on the third they admitted it was their fault. The key is to proove that you thought you were entitled to the money and don't give up.
Good Luck x0 -
Thanks for that link, I have signed!Integrity is a dying art!:p0 -

I asked them to send me an appeal form, which they did, and which I completed and returned. They wrote back to me saying that they did not accept my reasons and that I still owed them the money.
Since then (last summer?) I just ignored that letter and have heard nothing from them since
ssssssshhhhhhh:)
That was January......
In February we received notice that they were taking us to court - hubby contacted Glasgow, they agreed to stop court proceedings but advised we contact Preston ourselves
Preston were contacted and they were asked to send a breakdown of exactly how they reached the figure of £500+ (they seemed quite surprised when we asked for a breakdown and stated that no-one has ever asked for one before) Preston agreed to send a breakdown within 2 weeks
2 weeks later.......nothing
so we had to contact Glasgow again and tell them what was happening so they could put another delay on the court proceedings, then contact Preston again to ask for the breakdown.....
and so it goes on, every two weeks hubby is making the same phone calls with no sign of this moving forward0
