Hi, just received an "Amended tax credit award for 06/04/2006 - 06/04/2007.
"You have been overpaid for this award period by £2264.05"
How? My wage and DH wage has not increased dramatically, and our 3 children are all still in education.
In fact on the sheet, they list our joint earnings for April 05 - April 06 as £20537.
Total income (based on an estimate you provided) April 06 - April 07 as £19951.
??????????????????????????????????????????
I think I shall get on the phone and find out !!!!!! is going on!!!keep smiling,

Well, I rang and spoke to a woman there who said the overpayment was a mistake, due to a 6 month period of information missing from 3 and half years ago. My DH left a job, went s/employed valeting, but spent more on promoting himself and materials costs, than he actually earnt, so had no profit to declare. He then got a "proper" job and has been there for the past 3 years.
Turned out this 6 month period caused the overpayment, and as I said he earnt very little, she amended the info on the system and said this would amend the overpayment amount. - Still not sure how missing info can cause an overpayment, surely it implies they thought more money was received, but hey, I am reserving judgement, until I get the updated award notice from them, so wtch this space!!!keep smiling,

I am really stuck with my TCs atm. We were told about 3/4 months ago that after a few different changes that our award was now zero...but i didn't get a bill...why? Cos we haven't had an award for about 10 months, everytime i ring up, something is wrong, they have me working when i am not. they have my husband on benefits when he is working. we have given them exact dates for the past 2 years and the system messes it up every single time.
And like i said even though we have had changed in circs they can't send us an award notice...'cos there is an error on your claim' that is all i get ALL the time.
I started self employment recently and got told that it would update and that i would have to ring (as usual) to see if it changed my claim. It has but we're only getting a small amount every month, again i don't know what they're basing it on and i have no proof of this income as they can't send a notice....i just don't know what to do0 -

It's often helpful to enlist your MP's support - face to face ideally - and request all your papers and recordings/transcripts of your calls, which very often shows careful 'editing' of evidence you might need, but is very illuminating. People also need to get sueing. At the moment the Tax Credit Office can be completely negligent and the onus is entirely on us to vet their recurrent mistakes. This is self-evidently a travesty of justice and the system needs to change. Good luck - don't give up, as there are many stages to the process, as this site shows.0 -

Tax Credits have ruined me, I can't sleep or eat and I'm gonna lose my home thanks to tax credits awards!.
I have been overpaid £4200 in the last 2 years! and they admit I did nothing wrong.
money has been tight, im trying to keep a roof over my familys head and
never wanted credits in the first place (im a simple man who is used to earning his money) but was badgered by friends to apply, and right from the start I asked HM revenue " are you sure I should be getting this amount?" and had been reasurred so many times by the people on the helpline that my award was correct and that was what im entitled to.
They can't stop apologising, and when i told one of them last night I wish I'd never started recieving credits he said "well thats silly" but I wouldn't be in the position I am now!.
and just to really rub it in, there is nothing I can do but pay it back, its unjust and unfair .
I just don't know what to do next, how can they get away with doing this to me?.0 -
