Hi maralum - I have the same problem in trying to get my OH to eat healthy.
I know it's a PAIN but, I cook us both the same veg & potatoes and then I do whatever meat he's having and a bit of fish under the grill for me. OR - always have a big prepared salad in the fridge and if they're having pizza (for example) part of your dinner is already prepared in the fridge and you just add whatever fish you fancy.
Do you have a Slow Cooker? You could always do their meal in the SC in the morning and that way you only really have to 'cook' your meal in the evening - they can just dish theirs up and leftovers can be frozen to reheat the next week.
Hope this helps a bit although I know it sounds like a mega pain to dish up two dinners..... Should be worth it if you're eating what you like and being healthier, for it.
Am I a pushover to my OH by cooking him what HE wants......?? I've tried like it or lump it but it causes too many arguments! I prefer the easy, quiet life!!Official DFW Member 716 - Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
Hi all, I've only done a little flying today as I'm feeling a bit down. Am tired of being heavy.:( I'm not massive, but I was a size 10 three years ago and am now a 16. I'm only 5 foot 1 and I have 32HH boobs. I feel completely out of proportion.
My diet has really changed since DH came to live with us. I used to eat fish 3/4 times a week with salad or veg, but he doesn't like it, so I don't cook it anymore. In an attempt to feed my family, I've given up all of my lovely, healthy, tasty food and prepare the sort of carp that they love. DH and DS refuse point blank to eat good food, so what do I do? Do I leave them to fend for themselves? I tried this before, but they ended up eating slices of bread for dinner as DH hates cooking. I can't let my four-year-old eat just bread for dinner, but nor can I put up with feeling ungainly and unhealthy any longer.
Any fabulous, amazing ideas accepted!
I feel the same. DH refuses to eat 'rabbit food', or pasta and so does DS1. So recently I started on the 'This is what I am making, this is what will be on your plate, if you don't eat it then you will go hungry' thing.
DS1 has went to be a few times hungry, as has DH. But tough, I am not cooking different meals, they learn to eat it or starve.
The 4 year old should get the message pretty quick, just give him what you are having, with no snacks or alternatives. I'm sure he won't starve, he will eventually give in.
if DH doesn't want it, tell him to get his own.
I know what folk mean by not making the most of being thin! So now (and I'm 16-18 big boobs, and 5'6'') I make the most of being me!!! LOL! Explains my recent obsession with shoes! And that I can still claim to be an hour glass figure, just a larger hour glass, maybe a two-hour glass. oh..
Plus, with boobs like ours, all you do is wear a low cut top and NOBODY is looking anywhere else!
Lil_me, you have left us with pipen again?! EEEKKK!!! Take care, and don't run away! You need to be a fly gobsh*te like the rest of us!0 -
Definitely agree with whoever suggested the smaller meal sizes, as well. I used to cook a WHOLE bag of potatoes for a roast dinner for two of us - I am not exaggerating! They would just about fit in my roasting tin, which is huge. Now, I cook much less than that and it is plenty.
I read somewhere that your brain adjusts your hunger to the size of your portion. So, for example - if you've got a BIG portion and only eat half of it, you automatically believe you're still hungry whereas if you have a smaller portion and eat the lot - you are more likely to trick yourself into thinking you're full.
Does that make sense???Official DFW Member 716 - Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
Also, your stomach is the size of your fist when empty, so to fill it during a meal, you should eat roughly two fist's worth of food. And drink while eating. Anything more than this is excess food. And try and work out when you do feel hungry, for me I feel hunger in my throat, strange, but when I think I'm hungry, I'm not, I'm thirsty, or bored.
I have been doing that for a couple of weeks and it seems to be working. Belly is not so 'pregnant' looking!0 -
ashbart couldn't agree with you more, my partner did squirm highly when I showed him how much cereal was a portion (as in not the soup bowl he's used to) like today I had tinned soup (sorry not very OS but has to be Heinz if tomato, no hm matches it for me) so I had half a can and a bread roll, before these changes I would have had the full can, 3 bread rolls (minimum) and something afterwards usually crisps and a yoghurt. Saving me money aswell
Things like coffee, I don't like it with sweetener, so have reduced it down by amount I drink (thought it'd kill me with withdrawls at first) and gradually weening myself off the sugar (down to 3/4 spoon instead of 2) Doing without what you like or eating what you dislike is why many don't succeed. I also invested in smaller plates, invested yes that's right, smaller plates means I don't overfill the big ones we had, saving me money aswell. If you are BF little one, you need your nutrients to feed her, I wouldn't try and tackle weight loss too much until that is over or you'll just end up feeling cack! Oh food diary, I did a spending diary which shocked me into spending less, so I did a food one, reading it was a shock.
One day I might be more organised...........

There is a thread here
there is a post with some interesting links. Suggests that weight gain and loss has as much to do with how you eat as it does with what you eat.
For example, eating less and exercising more will only make you hungry, you wont loose weight for long.
I thought it was interesting. I have given up eating white bread, rice and pasta too, which I never liked anyway, but DH demands white stuff. he hasn't even noticed the rice is different. Tastes better even if it does take longer to cook. Trying to give up chocolate... but it's a love-hate, I love it, even if does give me headaches and now heart palpitations!
almost time to go to the school...

On the weight (no pun intended) of the last few posts i have decided to implement the following.
1. Use the small plate I bought last time I went on a healthier eating plan (and lost almost 2 stone - funnily when I went back to the "normal" size plate the weight came back on:rolleyes: )
2. I will do a meal plan for a week so I know what I should be eating.
3. In the morning I will make myself a packed lunch when i do DH and DD1s. This will mean I will have lunch ready and waiting rather than grazing or eating whatever my fingers find first when I open the fridge.
4. I WILL do HHE per day (with extra tummy specific ones)
5. I am not on a diet and am on a lifestyle change plan. I am not a dustbin so will stop shovelling the food in
6. I will stop drinking wine and switch to vodka and diet lemonade (or soda and lime). I know I should give up but this is lifestyle not diet;)
There its in black and white now on the flylady thread so I must do it. I am sure if I lost a bit of weight I would have more energy and my legs wouldnt ache so much when I get out of bed in the morning.0 -
http://worknotes.com/IL/Chicago/Fit4FunKidsFitness/List6.stm rather interesting, some ideas on making housework more of an exercise routine. See I am one of these nightmare people who isn't bothered about doing exercise, just hate 'wasting my time'. I was on the cross trainer yesterday and I was just flippin bored within minutes. Loads of links at the bottom of that page too.One day I might be more organised...........

Afternoon all, so sorry have read through the read (thanks button wouldn't work!) and have forgot what I wanted to say to who as been up and down stairs trying to settle LO.
Managed to 'fly' this morning and then spent a couple of hours playing with DS.
DH has sold his car today but took ages for the money to go over so had some weirdo in my kitchen for about 2 hours, then took him to hospital for his lenses and then dropped him off where he's collecting his new car from and all he did was shout at me all morning. Lovely. Supposed to take him to airport tomorrow am but at this rate he'll be walking! Must be the day for it with DH's!
Might nip out to Aldi later if DS wakes up in time, need a few bits
See you later, its all gone quiet so dare risk a cuppa now.
Oh, Tori - I ordered the 'Slivercross Pop' - felt lovely when I pushing DS around Boots in it LOL!Lightbulb moment 15th Feb 2007:doh: Now Debt Free and plan on it staying that way!
Baby on board!:D0
