If you make it easy for them to steal they'll keep coming back for more. And most insurance policies will cost more after and won't always replace like for like.

When I spoke to my insurance company the other day, they told me it makes no difference where you park it despite the question still being asked. He told me that aren't based on that anymore so it's the same price whether you park on the drive or in the garage. It's more down to postcode than anything.

They may speak for themselves in this regard but it is absolutely not true in general. If overnight location was not a risk factor then they would not bother asking the question.

You may well find that if you live in a high-risk area and you state that your car will be kept in the garage your policy will have a garaging warranty on it. If this is the case then if you leave your car in your drive overnight and it is stolen then you will absolutely not get paid out.
  • What Raskazz is saying is true. My other half has just confirmed this as he has worked in car insurance for years.

True, but if someone has gone to the hassle of breaking into your home they are not going to be afraid of giving you a slap to get the keys.

Anything tasty should be covered with a policy with an agreed value, if these are worth it on claiming I'm unsure, I hope to never find out!

Claims don't push up insurance by as much as expected, we are paying £150 a year more with 2 claims than with 0.

So when he was talking about postcode, was he suggesting that if I lived in a rougher area, it would make a difference?

Yes, if you lived in a postcode like mine then your insurance will be higher than if you lived in a "nicer" town.

As for the garage point, it heavily applies with motorbikes, insurance is heavily reduced if it is garaged.

anewman is right, these kind of thefts are usually stolen to order, thethieves will get a standard rate to steal the cars and anything else they can get thier hands on is thiers to keep.
it will either be broken into parts to sell on,keep an eye on ebay for one seller with a lot of parts from a car with the same colour as yours in the glasgow area.
or as anewman says the parts or even the whole car has gone abroad.
it is not un common though to find your car could be in storage waiting to be used for a getaway car/decoy vehicle.

My huubys car was found in the Rutherglen area (we still dont have it back yet) thank god for the Tracker, got a call last night from a bloke saying he was a police D.C and that he had caught 2 youths with our lap-top and if there was any way we could identify it(lap-top was in my hubbys car)
he even asked us for the password
I contacted Glasgow police and they said that the D.C the bloke said he was off duty but the bloke knew too much info so I guess he has dealt with police at pitt street and rutherglen a lot
I think my car is in that area too:mad:
maybe it worth going to look for it myself

I also doubt the cars were stolen to order. One maybe, but two from the same driveway? They would be rubbing there hands. Not that that is of any use to you at all though, best of luck. Glad you were smart enough not to give out any further info. How did they get your phone no?, do they have any other personal details?
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I'd be more worried about the house security, at least cars are replaceable, I don't fancy the idea that someone can get in at night!

How did they get into the house, if windows were broken can you replace them with toughened glass? if they forced locks then get better replacements.

In the first post you warn us to be carefuil about locking windows and doors with rather suggests that you had left something open, please make yourself safe.
