Hi everyone and thanks for all the replies and great advice.

Well I can't change the dd date for the mortgage as its due on the 25th, which is the last day it can be paid in Jan. If I change it to the 1st Feb, which is one week later, I will be classed as in a months arrears and repossession order will start. :(

I already have a basic account which the wages are being paid into instead, but I cant cancel the dd for the loan as it wont let me do it online and they wont do it over the phone.

I told them there wouldnt be any money in and they said they will just keep bouncing the dd , making more overdrawn charges (£20+) and failed dd charges (£38) on top until I do pay.

I already have my soa up and have made cut backs, I am married with 5 children 11yrs - 11 months and 2 dogs. We spend £40 a week on food/toiletries/cleaning/pet food etc.

I have made all cut backs possible save one, which is my hubbys gym membership which he refuses to change.

Natwest will not accept reduced payments and wont help at all.

But thanks for everyone trying to help xx

Please get hold of CCCS or CAB. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan#help ring them NOW.

NatWest cannot refuse to cancel a DD. You may have to go to the branch to complete a form but they are breaking the banking rules.

You need urgent help from someone who NAt West know knows the rules and who can advocate on your behalf.

    Hi Molly

Can't you go into your NatWest branch and talk to someone face to face? This refusal to help you avoid problems seems crazy to me, sounds like you need to sidestep the rule-bound idiocy of the call centre, and take a step in another direction. Good luck.

Mollybear, this is excellent advice, and I urge you to take action on this today.

Natwest CANNOT refuse to cancel a DD.

Totally unreasonable I would put all this in writting . I would make an appointment with the manage before the 25 th ,I know its short notice , but just go into the branch . Take all the kids with you ,let them run riot in the bank , until the manager will see you . Explain your suggestion and how it would help , even suggest you could pay the interest differance between the 25 th and say the 5th ( to allow your wages to go in ). Good luck
  • Is it worth going in and talking face to face with them, its easier sometimes with a personal adviser than an anonymous person on the phone. It would also show the bank that you are serious about your financial situation and prepared to do everything you can to remedy it. Good luck, i have been in similar situation and our branch was very helpful in sorting it out with me, they cancelled that month's dd and i was able to pay itall back for the next month, i also had charges dropped. We were in that situation when my OH business finished and we had no income for over 8 weeks. they couldn't have been more kinder or considerate, also i think it helped because i was veryhonest and could prove everything i said.i also had another thought- maybe they could extend overdraft on a temp basis to help out, and reduce it back when you are able. Although that may mean you have to pay a certain amount back into the account. Good luck with it all.

Would you sell your puppy because your in a financial nightmare???

Some of you will have seen my recent thred:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=698247

As well as owing the bank We also owe 2 other loans we cant pay this month, mainkly because 2-3 weeks ago we bought a puppy for mine and daughters birthday :o:o

Please dont lecture i KNOW how stupid this was, but it happened, what am i asking is would it be ok to rehome the pup and get the money back, not only is there no other way of getting unstuck, we cant afford the upkeep of said pup anyway realistically. i know my kids will be a little put out, but as pup is so young and they arent that bothered with him as yet  i thought it might be best all round to rehome him.

What do you guys think? Should i use my head and put my finances first or listen to my heart and keep him anyway and pay the bills god knows how. :(

once we are straight this month we have made arrangements to
lower money and so will be better off, its just if i dont 'find' £200 we wont be straight at all and so the arrangements wont make any difference.

advice not judgement needed please :o

    thanks
  • No I wouldn't it would be like selling my children. no matter how bad it got somehow I managed to feed the pets and ourselves.
