My water bill for the year is over £800.00 pounds

there is 5 of us in the house ,so i doubt a meter would help us

I live in Devon like Trish and my bill is £720 per year, I had a meter and it went up and there's only two of us so I've switched back.
For the year ending March 2005 it was £426.27 which is an absolute scandalous increase. . SW water are total rip off merchants. WE need competition in the water industry they can charge what they like without any fear of losing their customers.

Really fed up now City are losing at York
Proud to be dealing with my debts.

2011 WILL be a good year!
  • We're with anglian water and our bill is £520 a year. This is for 4 people in a 4 bedroomed house.

we are a family of 5,
We have nice garden, leaky koi pond, 3 cars. Eldest and husband shower everyday. I share a bath with 2 little ones everyday. On water rates we were paying almost double.
    Water meter, (B/mouth &W.Hampshire) - £130 per year
    sewerage , (wessex) - £210 per year

I can't understand why sewerage is so much more than water.

simply - its is much more difficult to clean sewage up to put it into the river than it is to clean the river water for you to drink!

We don't need competition - it wouldn't work. We just need good regulation.

And as i work for one of the regulators - we will all be on meters within 10 years. And we have all got to use less water - not for the commpanies pockets but for the little fish who are quite happy in their river thank you very much!

My water company (Thames) have just estimated that I will use £60 worth of water this year. I'm not sure I agree.

I didn't have a clue how much other people were paying. I was quite upset when my bill came (unmetered), £211 for the year, considering a neighbour in an identical house just got theirs at £188. I'm not upset anymore after reading how much you lot are paying.

Our bill has just landed on the mat - £437 from United Utilities (Lancashire).

There are three of us in a 3 bedroom semi-detached.

Many years ago we were successful in having our rates band reduced. Even though water rates are based on rates, the fact that a house has had the banding decreased, makes no difference to what they charge, they still base the water charge on original band.

The three of us use around average amounts of water and I'm considering whether to ask for a meter to be installed.

Our bill arrived at £320 for the year (rates) - Northumbrian Water.

I'm sure we could save money with a meter but it's "just in case" isn't it! Never know when we might need a billion gallons for summink!

United Utilities say they'll fit a water meter for free, and if it's not right for you, within 12 months, they'll switch you back to paying by the rateable value. Don't know if it's the same for other water companies.
