Just had my first half yearly bill since being on a meter £41 down from £112. Live on my own, usually have shower`s every day but fot three weeks had to have bath`s due to kitchen/bathroom re-fit. Big difference when on tight budget.

I got my Wales Water bill this week. £400. For a bedsit, where I can't have a water meter. I was previously on a meter with South West Water (MOST expensive water company in the UK) and there I was paying about £11/month.

So I phoned them up and they can assess you based on some questions she asks you:
1] How many people live there?
2] Do you have a bath or a shower?
3] Do you have a garden?
4] Do you have a washing machine
    5] Do you have a dish-washer?

I answered: 1, shower, no, yes, no.

    She said: £240.

She's now sent me a form and I have to get the landlord's permission. Then they send out a man who will decide that a water meter cannot be fitted to a block of communal flats (you'd think they'd look up the other flats and see if they'd been assessed because my neighbour put me onto this).

It will take up to 12 weeks I think she said (might be 5).

    I pay £30 a month and I'm not on a meter.

    My Nan's bill was £500ish a year!

She lives alone, in a sheltered accom flat and only has a shower, so my Mum rang up for her and she should only be paying £240 a year!

She's paid the bigger figure for years now, she didn't think to let anyone know she thought it was high.

I was looking into having a meter but have decided against after reading the discussions in this forum. I live in a two bedroom house with 2 kids. Have a garden, washing machine and we have a shower everyday and the occasinal bath. My bill for the year is £282. That sounds fair so I'll not be asking for a meter.

we are a family of 5,
We have nice garden, leaky koi pond, 3 cars. Eldest and husband shower everyday. I share a bath with 2 little ones everyday. On water rates we were paying almost double.
    Water meter, (B/mouth &W.Hampshire) - £130 per year
    sewerage , (wessex) - £210 per year

I can't understand why sewerage is so much more than water.

  • Hi there

I'm in SE Wales, and my bills are nearly £400 for a two-bedroomed house with no garage - and definitely no pool! Yet, when I approached Welsh Water for water meter info, I was told that I probably wouldn't save hardly anything with a meter. How's that, then? Incidentally, where are Martin's figures from? They obviously don't tie in with what I pay.

    Confused Sue

I live on my own and I used to pay 28 GBP a month (which I thought was outrageous). I moved in in August. Today I got my new calculations and I am supposed to pay 33 GBP.....what happend?
