You could just take them to small claims court; Sale of Goods Act 1979 and all that. How old is it?
its my understanding id have to take amazon as they are the retailer who i had the contract with, it was 19 months but £300 piece of hardware dying after 19 months is just rediculous, ive sent an e-mail to amazon saying something along those lines

And also did you see watchdog last week. They were covering this and had a team of independent console repairers sorting viewer's PS3s out. Took them about half an hour for each one, very little actual work involved so its just shoddy on sony's part.
i actually watched it on iplayer last night :) still doesnt help me but looked interesting and hopefully might make a difference

Ah yes of course you're right, my mistake. Maybe Amazon will offer to replace anyway.

Thought you might be interested in that...
  • i wish i knew this before opening my psp up and just destroying it
  • Hi, I phoned Sony they told me because my son's PS3 is 18 months old it is out of warranty. They want me to pay £128 for a replacement. He has about £500 worth of games that won't load. I think this is just not good enough. Has anyone any ideas of what I should do now.

  • My PS3 broke last year it'd load up to where it plays the little tune then just stopped, so I called Sony, more than happy to help, arranged for a new one to be sent out to me next day.

My PS3 was 40GB, new PS3 came with no problems, then a day or so later my brother said you do realise they've sent you a 60GB one back, I was over the moon :)
Just me, in my own little world

bit of advice please today my ps3 has stopped working have this so called YLOD. spook to sony got the standard £148 for refurb now i have the 40gb and its about 2years old poss a little over this. its still has its warrenty sticker attached still boxed and in like new condition, now for something to break 2 years after purchase is awful when you concider the ceo of sony playstation has said they expect it to last 10yrs, if it had broke maybe 5/6 years i could accepts buying a new one, after searching the net i have found thousands of people with this fault but sony seem to be getting away with it. im now thinking about the small claims route as anyone actually done this? im really peeved like many others and i think its time we stood together on this to force sony into taken action. i feel a facebook campaign coming on well if i was on it anyway.

Just had this problem with other half's fat PS3, 40gb, just over 2 years old. Got YLOD a week or so before easter, Sony wanted £150 for a refurbed replacement. Mentioned SOGA and they told me to go to the retailer I bought it from. Phoned Game and they said that although their warranty is 12 months, they were offering a 3 year one for free on PS3s and so would arrange for the company that do their repairs to pick it up, fix it and return it for free. PS3 is on it's way back to us now fixed so hopefully all good!

The CEO means the PS3 brand not each individual console . It means that they will keep produce games/accesories for for a 10 year period from launch (so 2016) just as they are doing for the PS2

regarding contacting Sony about getting a refurbished one, my partner had to do this twice and the second time nearly 12 months after recieving the replacement, refurbished 60GB PS3 he managed to get a new refurbed one for nothing. If you remain calm on the phone and explain the situation, and use some basic negotiation skills then Sony customer service tend to be very hepful.
