When choosing a mattress I always advise looking at several, deciding on one and then sleeping on it.

Actually, can't you "view" products from Argos before you pay??

If you can, then get them to let you test the mattress before paying for it! Put it on the floor next to the counter and have a good jump on it, take a 20 minute nap, roll over a few times, and THEN make a decision :-)

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • come on people moan when assistants aren't honest with them and now when they are they moan - it was cheap and turns out to be ****, what did you expect from a cheapo argos mattress? and as for returning it for a refund after 30 days?!?! No consumer law covers you for that, if it's faulty but then only for a repair/replacement

One mans luxury is another mans.... basic.

If you had been sleeping on the floor previously it would be luxury.

If you were used to a £1000 matress it would be basic.

Maybe sales assistant was having a bad day???

How can you put an exact meaning on such words as "luxury", "deluxe" or "finest quality" ? Until there is a proper legal definition for them, they are just meaningless words.

No matter what the cost... if Argos advertised it as 'luxury firm orthopaedic'

But 'luxury firm orthopaedic - £115', gives that a completely different meaning which it obviously must have said.

Are you saying you'd expect the quality of a £500 mattress?

Would you also expect a bag of spanners?

This is it though, was it really like that? If so, wouldn't you have taken less than 30 days to decide to return it?

    Mortgage-free Glee!
:naughty: - naughty Argos- that's abit of a "Ratner"....

.....Luxury should mean Luxury. It shouldn't mean "we are saying it's luxurious but it's obviously carp".....Surely if it's Basic - it should say Basic?

    Good luck:money:

In the context of selling things I don't think there is a legal definition of what "luxury" means. Unless it's contested and defined in a court of law, any retailer can use these descriptions with impunity.

Compared to a bed of nails, the mattress probably IS luxury, so you can't blame the definition.

If the OP genuinely wanted a "luxury" mattress, they would have gone to a store where you can test them rather than ordering something they haven't even seen before! I think this just needs to be put down to experience.
