  • I have a gree kfr 32g n1jf (http://www.mgr-ac.co.uk/productView.asp?productID=5&categoryID=2).

The outdoor unit has recently started buzzing quite loudly when operational at full power. When the fan slows a little, the buzzing goes away. Any idea why this may be?
  • Are you saying this is when the compressor is operating at full speed in heat mode?

Does it do the same in cooling mode?

Could be the fan capacitor or relay that is faulty or the fan motor is worn.

is it still under warranty? These are things the installers should sort out for you.

  • yes it is when the compressor is at full speed in heat mode.
dont know about cooling mode as have not had that on for some months!
not under warranty, but doubt that fan motor is worn as although the unit was installed 2 years ago, it has hardly been used.
i guess i will have to call a local engineer...
  • So when you say the fan is slowing down is the compressor also slowing down at this point?

Could you make a youtube video with the sound so I can hear.

my outdoor unit you can hear the compressor at full speed its like a humming sound though. Could be the fact your compressor is runnign full speed and if its not doing it when ramping down then it seems ok.

Cooling mode the compressor rotates no where near as fast as it does in heating mode as it doenst have to work any where near as hard. You will also notice the fan runs a lot slower in cool mode.

  • sorry, to be clear when I said fan, i meant on the outdoor unit. (The indoor unit is fine always). When it ramps down, the buzzing goes away, but at full whack it buzzes loudly.
  • Yeh then its the compressor, some units will be louder than others, could be due to you having a cheaper unit. Gree are not one of the leading brands as far as im aware.

If you can do a video of the noise we might be able to help further otherwise were clutching at straws as we cannot say its right or not.

A dirty condenser will not make the compressor buzz loudly.

We need a video, user please make one.
