Air Source Heat Pumps

Thanks, guys.
The pump is not connected to DHW so it must be heating something else.0 -
Is there a buffer tank for the heating system? As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0

Sounds as though it's not configured correctly. Mine will only heat the house when one or more of the external stats call for heat.
The hydrobox has a switch on the main PCB which configures the controller to respond to external control. The controller has a small triangle shaped symbol in the top right corner (just under the red heating light) which indicates that external control is enabled.
I've got eight programmable wireless thermostats which control the floors in each room via two zone controllers (one controls five zones - 9 circuits and the other three zones - 8 circuits) . The Zone controllers are fed back to the Hydrobox and turn the heat pump on an off according to the demand from each of the stats. Probably overkill but that's the way it is.
I can have different temperatures at different times of the day in each of the rooms, so bedrooms are set back during the day and over night but get a gentle warming in the mornings and evenings, likewise the bathroom. The lounge, hall and kitchen are set back overnight (set back is only by a couple of degrees though, otherwise the rooms cool down and take too long to warm up again). Most nights the heating only comes back on again if it gets very cold outside.
We are at home all day so continuous heating suits us perfectly.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
As Matelodave says, there seems to be a setup problem. I do not know the Daiken models, so as he has more experience of them, then he may be better to have you look at fault/operating setup codes.
Did you possibly set all your thermostats to just frost protection, as could not understand why you turned them all off in the middle of winter!!As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
Does it run flat out/full bore? Maybe it's carrying out a defrost cycle,if not suspect incorrect set up0

Hello again all
I am more confused about Air source heat pumps than ever, I am going to put in an air source heat pump (make to be decided.) I have been getting conflicting advice, that if I install lets say Mitsubishi Ecodan system, some people are saying that I will need a hydraulic internal unit as well, and some saying no I don't who is giving the correct info?
I will only be using the pump for under floor heating and not hot water. :beer:0 -
I don't know about the EcoDan, I've got a Daikin LT split system.
The compressor unit sits outside the house with a hydrobox inside. Hot refrigerant is pumped between the two. The hydrobox is connected to the underfloor heating & hot water tank via a three port valve - just like a conventional system. Disadvantage is that you need a hydrobox indoors, but the outside unit can be some distance away from it. The hydrobox is about the same size as a wall mounted boiler.
Daikin also do a Monobloc version in which the compressor & hydrobox are combined in the outside unit and the heated water for the central heating/hot water are fed into the house. The slight disadvantage being that you really need antifreeze in the circulating fluid and ideally the external unit pipework should be fairly short.
Some systems need a buffer tank, but I've no experience or information on how one affects the system except that you've got to find space for a fairly large 300litre+ tank. Perhaps others could advise.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Hi matelodave
I was under the impression mono bloc meant just that, it was mono (stand alone.)
not a techie on this so I have no idea, I am trying to find out before I go ahead and purchase a system, and then find out I have to have more kit to make it work.
I have had IVT/Bosch around today trying to advise, But I live in France so conversation was not too helpful as my technical French is not very good. they say I need a hydrobox/controller with their system. problem is I have not designed the internals of the house to put one anywhere.0 -
It would be quite possible you would not need a buffer tank, as that is usually installed for a split heating type of system, or zoned heating which requires different heat levels.
I did not see what type of area you are heating. As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0
