Hi everyone. Just sat here with a cuppa, having trawled the internet for insurance quotes for DH's public liability. His existing renewal is for £171 but I have got four quotes, the dearest £180 and the cheapest £110, so he can have a browse through all the bits of scribble and printed off bits of paper and decide.

The stew is bubbling away nicely and I've just bunged in the dumplings; I put the ironing board up at 11am and took it down again at 4.30pm - I'm ashamed to say I didn't use it so I will have to do it tomorrow. After all the time spent on insurance websites, I fancied an hour's knitting so that's what I did instead - and I enjoyed it, especially as I had made a mistake in it yesterday which I hadn't noticed but it stood out like a sore thumb today, so I've put it right.

MRS MIX - I hope your DD is feeling better now; what a dreadful thing for a boy to do to a girl. I'm glad your sofa arrived at last! Put your feet up and relax - that's what they're for!

Well, I'm babysitting tonight so I hope DH is not too late home - I want to get cleared up before I go. He might come with me if he's not too tired; it's not the work - he's used to hard work and enjoys it, it's the driving that finishes him off!

Anyway, we had some SUNSHINE (what's that?) this afternoon and it stayed lighter for longer so I really feel that spring is in the air; I'm sure the birds are singing louder than usual. I actually got towels almost dry on the line and I didn't put them out until after lunch.

Anyway, off now to see how the stew is doing.

Have a great evening - I probably won't get chance back on here again tonight. See you all in the morning.

    Evening all,

Welcome to the non-smokers club dlb

Shez....only Moran by marriage, so don't think that we need worry!

Csarina....glad that you got your card sorted...I usually pay for things by credit card while abroad( you get the rate of exchange on the day) and if I need cash I use my Cirrus/Maestro Laser card, have never had a problem yet...don't think that you can pay for things on debit (laser) card as I tried to do it in Holland once and it didn't work. Try to keep your car...very difficult to give up when you are used to it for difficult public transport journeys.

    Mrs Mix...hugs to your DD

Aussie...look forward to seeing the real Lamb Island...congratulations on the new great niece.

Haribo, liked your picture too...totally different but equally attractive places IMHO

Scuzz...sorry that you feel so alone....but for a beautiful, intelligent girl like you who knows what lies round the next corner...nicer job would be a good start and it won't be long until you are in your own apartment....

Have been typing while DGS1 and DGD1 have been fighting over remote control ...she won although less than half his age...looks like a blonde angel and then behaves like a fishwife!

Enjoy the rest of your day everybody

    Hi Everyone
Deteriorated after initial posting, fell asleep on settee and woke up with blinding head. Ended up on the settee all day, but watched a brilliant tennis match when Tsonga [STRIKE]won[/STRIKE] wiped the court with Nadal. Seems at least Murray didn't lie down and die It was the most fantastic tennis and even DH watched all the match without getting frustrated with the players. Tomorrow is the other semi-final. Slept the afternoon away and now I am feeling a lot better, hope I can sleep tonight though.

Congrats on the new arrival Aussie, hope you enjoyed the match - you may need to send me that link again when I am back on BBand.

Csarina/Mrs Moneypenny - JUST TO CLARIFY - There are no charges with NW for using the Credit Card abroad, there are charges for getting cash out with any CC, though I believe that if you put the CC account into credit then there are no charges even for this. I use my CC overseas rather a lot and get a far better rate on that than I can from changing it at home. I prefer that to carrying much cash, and I have the DC for getting cash out. My cards are new enough so no problems there, will just have to organise a card reader for my laptop. Heaven know how you will go on at an internet cafe though! Will probably have to leave enough cash in the Flex a/c.

DH been on cooking duties for last two days and fridge getting rather thin, so hope I have the energy to walk to the supermarket with him tomorrow.

Pen-Pen - Just looked at Baracelona weather for your DD, 16-17C and Sunny, she should really enjoy.

  • Evening all

MRS MIX what a nasty little g*t hope your DD is ok.

Ended up having scrambled eggs on toast before swimming, DS decided to polish mine off when he saw them so ended up making more. If I was to suggest it to him he'd probably go "urgh!"

Have got a glass of wine in front of me, think I fancy a nice salad, my body clock is really up the spout!

Have a good night and sweet dreams to all insomniacs:A xxxx

A big thank you to everyone that posts their ideas and tips.:T

I am a recent convert, although I have minimal debt (manageable car loan) & a reasonable job - I'm not saving. Last year I moved into my own place, so did buy lots of housey stuff, this year I want to save some money to have a 'cushion' and stop living by the seat of my pants (and credit card!) .

This is week 2 of my plan. Day one I went through all my cupboards and freezer and listed what I had - my local shop has nothing on me.:rotfl:

I then menu planned for a month (and found I had made a small dent in the stuff I have). I have tried really hard not to go to the supermarket in my lunch hour (I work right next to it and it's somewhere to go that's not the office:cool: ) I have bought a few bits of reduced meat and fish and some fresh fruit and veg. The good thing is I'm starting to find it easier and next month I have to be strict with myself as its the last payment for my 0% card, so I've little cash to spare.

So many thanks again for all your inspiration and I'm hoping to be able to impart some wisdom soon!

I do not use the NW credit card at all, its the debit card attached to my flex account I use. As it is a Visa card you can use it anywhere they show the Visa sign.........I load the flex account before we leave always with more cash than I think we will need,'just in case' but touch wood so far I have not had to use it. I always have both my Tesco CC and also my Lloyds bank card with me as back up.

The sole reason I opened the flex account was to be able to use it abroad when either in France or the USA, I also have 6 different e accounts attached to it so I can transfer money immediately...........

Thankfuly we should get the new cards next week so I will not have to carry euros with us.

Fell asleep on the settee, ended up getting our supper about an hour late...
OH went to the aid of one of our neighbours, a visitor had unplugged her kettle, the arthritis in her hands meant that she could not get the plug back
in. She sent him back with a large bar of Chocolate..............

When we were in town today I bought 3 bottles of 240 high strength cod liver oil capsules for less than 1 bottle would normally cost. So we have enough for 12 months. We have been taking it for a number of years and I am sure its one of the reasons we do not seem to pick up colds...........
when I was a child my grandmother used to feed me a tablespoon of cod liveroil and malt every day in the winter..........I love it even now, its like condensed milk, I used to eat that as well if I could get my hands on it, condensed milk on bread sprinkled with sugar.........yum yum........not very healthy I know.
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.
