If you've confirmed you don't not have TV receiving equipment why should you have to then be subject to anything else?
This is just the point about the TVLA, they deliberately lie/confuse/browbeat people !
You do not have to tell anyone that you don't need a TV licence, even if you own a thousand TVs - you only need a licence if you watch (or record) live programmes.
If you don't drive a car, you don't have to tell the DVLA that you don't need a driving licence - it is exactly the same for a TV !
The TVLA website says you have to tell them if you don't need a licence - WRONG ! (on an 0870 number !)
and the wording implies you need a licence merely to own a TV - MISLEADING/WRONG !0 -
I know you don't have to do anything but my point was if you had the courtesy to reply that should be it. Having them turn up after that or continue to send letters like you're a liar or insist they need to see it for themselves is out of order.0

it doesn't though cos they don't believe anyone hasn't got a tv...:D:eek:I know you don't have to do anything but my point was if you had the courtesy to reply that should be it. TV Licensing themselves have stated that if you tell them you don't have a TV and they DO condescend to believe you, they take you off their mailing list for just 2 years, then start the threats again !0 -
i think you also need a tv licence if you listen to the radio

my sister works in a garage and they used to have the radio on in the background, then an inspector came and said do you have a license to play that?...maybe its just commercial premises and not households, i dont know.
anyway, we have a tv licence...the 11 quid just comes out the bank each month, my children would disown me if i got rid of the tele!
though i never really understood what the money we pay goes towards
. is it just the bbc? Bring back mark and lard NOW! or else (please) clique member no. 10 :j

Seeing that the TV Licensing Company have all our details does anybody know if they share this information with anybody else. I can't believe that a big company like this doesn't. If so isn't that a breach as i'm sure that i've never been asked my consent for my information to be shared with anybody else. Likewise if they are coming round your house as they see that no new license has been bought are they passing that information onto a third party to "enforce" the policy???0
-
who said they need to enter the property to collect evidence?
didnt anyone else see the tv licencing adverts couple of years ago?
what about the running of the transmitters so itv etc can transmit too???0 -
Well if the DVLA are happy to give out your details to all and sundry) i.e supermarkets I doubt the TV licence Gestapo would give it a second thought.0

I thought a licence isn't needed if you only listen to the radio?
This seems to confirm: Does my business need a licence? If you use a set-top box with a hi-fi system or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence.0 -

You do not need a licence for a radio, you might need a licence for certain types of public use (but that wouldn't be a 'standard' licence anyway) - but I would have thought that music in a garage didn't come under that !
Probably the "inspector" was just trying to show how important he was !!0
