who said they need to enter the property to collect evidence?
didnt anyone else see the tv licencing adverts couple of years ago?
If you are referring to the dreaded "detector vans" - evidence from these (if they even exist !) has NEVER been used in Court. Probably because it would not be admissable.0 -

Do I need a TV Licence?
You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, digital box, DVD or video recorder, PC, laptop or mobile phone to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV.
If you use a digital box with a hi-fi system or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence.
Directly from their own website so no you don't need a license to listen to a radio provided you can't display TV programs on the stereo.0 -
HI hope i'm in the right place.
We have a tv licence - in my name.
My husband bought us a new tv from catalogue in Dec.
He has had a letter saying "we know you bought a tv but no licence is in your name"
Surely if they just checked the address they would see that the house is covered by tv licence??
Or am i wrong??Wins in 2013 - Jan - Heinz No Noise Ketchup.0 -

You're absolutely correct, but they're idiots.
If he's bored, he should reply and tell them he refuses to buy a license. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
I bought 3 freeview boxes just before xmas, only cheapy ones from Tesco but I had to give all my details for them to give to the licensing people. Thing is 2 of the boxes were being given as presents for others to use in their homes (they have licences too) but how me giving my details helped I don't know.
Years back I was pesterd by them because 'I didn't have a licence' and they made me photocopy it and send it off on 3 seperate occassions, which I did. Then one morning a large man was on my doorstep demanding to see my licence, I searched everywhere for it - couldn't find it. Explained I'd sent 3 photocopies of it - he said they hadn't recieved them, anyway brainwave moment it was still in my bag from being photocopied. Showed it to him and the bit on the bottom that should have stayed at the post office for them to send off was still attached, hence they had no record of me having a licence. No apology.
This time I went to one of those paypoint places and bought it. All I had was a receipt, licence was to follow, it's nearly due again and I still have never actually recieved the licence. I've phoned and phoned to ask for it but still haven't got it. All because I didn't want to be bullied into paying for it by direct debit.
Sorry post was so long but I don't think they know their ar*e from their elbow.0 -

What happens next ?
You'll get put on their "threatening" letter list. About once a month you'll get a more threatening letter, accusing you of all sorts of things. They will threaten you with their "officers" who will "interview you under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act", if you are really lucky they might implicate you in the Princess Diana "murder" !
When you get really bored with this, write to their Mr Richard Goodbody (if he actually exists) and tell him that you are removing "implied rights of access" to your premises from any of his staff - and that if anyone from his outfit sets foot on your property you will see him in Court !
I did this and the letter I had back even had the wrong surname on it ! They are useless !0 -
Hi what a great thread. I can't remember so much fun about a licence! I have Sky upstairs and freeview downstairs. The BBC programs on Sky upstairs are shown about 2 seconds later than the freeview downstairs. So if I chuck Sky can I view without a licence because the program is not being shown at the same time as TV ? Yours confused.0
