The call centre's are just as bad, they say they dont need a warrant to enter your property, they can enter legally. Honestly a legal rep needs to call their call centre and listen to what these advisor's are saying, what lies they are telling, they are getting away with it.
If it wasn't for Martin Lewis website and his vast knowledge we wouldn't be upto date with what "...Joe Blogs" rights are.

The Forum user's make this site what it is, we are at a position to help others. Many Thanks. :T

You will still need a license. If it's capable of receiving and displaying broadcasts, then it must be licensed as far as I'm aware.
  • I used a TV card in my PC with a 22 inch monitor for about 3 years and never paid a penny....WHO SAID THAT?

is it me or is it just easier to let them in proove you have not got one and let them get on with their job rather than wasting their time when they could be catching real evaders?

It's you. I'm not wasting my time proving something they should already know. Basic database checks would show, for example, that while my girlfriend bought a TV for our house, the licence is in my name and the house is covered.

Until they get their data sorted, and stop the bullying 'we know you are guilty, prove otherwise' threats, I'll waste as much of their time as I can.
  • Unreal. I just a typed a fair message full of info and it never postred!!!

    Anyway, the jist of it;

t.v connected up to an inside/outside arial, freeview box connected up to likewise, a pc with a t.v. card installed, a dvd or vcr recorder connected up to likewise require a t.v. licence as they are capable of receiving live t.v. transmissions.

Watching a BBCi Player via the interenet or legally downloaded programmes or films do not require a licence as they are not live transmission services.

Well done on your stance browserd, I myself am getting a lot of letters, the latest yesterday stating that an "enforcement officer" will be round to investigate soon. That title in it itself is over the top designed to intimidate the general Joe Public. Although, he/she won't be getting any access either :-D

Sorry, but this is NOT CORRECT !

You only need a TV Licence if you watch or record LIVE TV programmes from any source.

The LAW says exactly that - no more.

You can have a thousand TV sets connected to a thousand TV aerials - if you don't watch or record live programmes you do not need a licence.
You can use all those TVs to watch recorded (by someone else) programmes and you still don't need a licence.

So people saying they should come back with a Policeman is fine? I bet the same crowd would be moaning when the police are to busy to attend a real emergency. In my eyes it would take less than a couple of minutes to let them in and then the problem is solved

Oh, my post was in reply to the person who does not have a licence, not people who do. I would see that it is annoying if you have a licence and they turn up pestering you

The point is that they will not come back with a policeman. This is due to them not telling the truth about their real powers. TV licensing staff have no powers unless they apply to the courts for a warrant and they are not going to do that because:
    a. It takes more effort than bullying and lying to people.
    b. They have to do it in the right way - the fact that their database is a mess doesn't help them.
    c. It costs them money
I know people in jobs where they have both the legal right to get police officers to suport them to carry out their jobs and actually have officiers assigned for this, and they have difficulty getting the police to comply with this.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
