Reverse Parking - moneysaving? even for me?

When I say reverse parking I find difficult, I don't mean in bays, I find that easy.
I mean street parking, reversing into a street space I find hard if its narrow.
My husband is amazing at this. If they gap is a tiny bit longer than his car he can get it in!
I'm afraid I'm a whizz at parallel parking too0 -
I can also reverse into a side by side parking space (which is not a requirement to pass your test, look it up). However, I find it time consuming and awkward to reverse into a side by side space, and so I choose not to do it.
I find it easier to park between 2 cars than a empty space0 -

Try setting youre mirrors a little better and using them for bay parking, you'll be able to line your vehicle perfectly in the space whatever may or may not be beside you.0 -

i think this is often the case, peoples mirrors arent adjusted properly,or they dont really know what they should be seeing in thier mirrors.
you need to see a bit of the side of your car,a bit of the road and everything else should fall in to place perfectly.
if you can see your car in the mirrors then you can see how close it is to other cars when parking next to them....work permit granted!0 -

There is no legal requirement that says you must be able to reverse into a parking bay, so it is not a requirement to pass a driving test. If it were, you would spend time learning how to do it.
The maneuvers you need are, 3 point turn, reverse around a corner, reverse park (in between two cars parked bumper to bumper) and emergency stop.
Nor does it mean you are bad at reversing if you can't reverse into a bay. It just means you are bad at reversing into a bay. :rolleyes:0 -

i would say if you cant reverse your car into a space that is marginally bigger than your car then you are bad a t reversing. you obviously cannot judge the size of your vehicle....work permit granted!0 -

Or you can judge the size of your vehicle and think 'this wont swing round into that, or it would and it would only take 10 mins, so sod it, I will drive in.'
Simple physics (or Geometry), it's easier to reverse into a bay in a small car than it is in a longer car.
Oh... hold on.. I see... I should get a shorter car.... :Tbravo:T
Either way, it depends on your driving style, ability and car as to whether it is cheaper to reverse into a space or drive into a space.0 -

I passed my test just over 5 years ago, and I had to reverse into a bay, and it was practised alot on the lessons, has it changed since then0 -

see post #42
it IS now part of the driving test.
i've never had a problem reverse parking - even in my father's estate car or a ferrari with virtually no back window that i was privileged to take for a spin.
the principles are the same whatever the size of car. it is true that a lot of people don't know how big their cars are, and drive sloppily. how many cars parked forwards in a car park are parked properly? the majority look to be abandoned!!!0 -

simple physics?
so you are saying it is easier to reverse a longer car out of a space than into it?
dont be so silly, you will use the same amount of road regardless of whether you drive in or reverse in.
who mentioned you changing car?
maybe resitting test ,as you said it depends on ability,if you arent able you shouldnt be driving.
and driving style, yes properly, reverse in drive out, that is proper.
and it doesnt depend on car, whether it be a van an estate a smart car or whatever, the same simple physics apply (front wheel steering) ....work permit granted!0
