Seems it now is.

Yup I had to "bay park" on my test, hated it, found it pretty hard in the instructor's wee corsa, throwing your head all over the place. Find it much easier in a van, using just the mirrors0

If its a tricky space in the supermarket I reverse in, as its easier.
But if its a wide space I drive in, as the boot is easier to load like that.
Reverse parking in tight spots I find difficult.
I reverse into my drive, then I have a good view coming out (for kids & animals) and the boot is facing the door for easy unloading.0 -
I prefer reversing in as it's safer, if you park pointing in it's all too easy to revsere out into the path of an oncoming vehicle
assuming you dont drive a very huge car your bonnet must be longer than your boot isnt it just as risky if not more so to pull out forwards ??If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

As you sit nearer the bonnet than the boot, I'd say probably doesn't make an ounce of difference.
Surely this is all a bit daft? In or out first? Whatever you do, do it safely - if you can't - surrender your licence. Big gap, small gap. Just be careful. Its not rocket science. I'm not sure how people pass their tests - I really don't mean to be rude, honestly, but if you can't park or judge your car, should you be on the road?
Probably upset some folk now, but it just frustrates me at times when you see people who just don't have a clue, on the roads, scaring the hell out of folk. Saw a young girl knocked down - laid out, on way home from work last night by some idiot not looking properly. Pray she survived - didn't look good. Really upset me - which is why I'm probably getting out of my pram tonight.

Trouble is, if you parked in it you couldn't open any of the doors.
Every morning I would open the boot and remove the parcel shelf, and fold in the wing mirrors. Then I'd reverse with the boot lid open into the space. I'd climb over the front and back seats and out of the boot, put the parcel shelf back in and then lock up.
Meant I could always park at work, and gave the security guards something to watch every morning!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
(Ooh, and no, I never hit/scraped the walls or pillars in 3 years of doing it!)
When I say reverse parking I find difficult, I don't mean in bays, I find that easy.
I mean street parking, reversing into a street space I find hard if its narrow.
My husband is amazing at this. If they gap is a tiny bit longer than his car he can get it in!0 -
When I arrive at a parking space I nearly always reverse into a parking spot unless I need access to the boot. It's far safer to do so when people aren't walking around and when other cars aren't present. Lots of accidents happen when you reverse out of a space as other people reverse out too and you both have blind spots. I despair of pedestrians who insist on walking past a car that has started reversing knowing full well that the driver has restricted vision and may not see them. Plus reversing the car up against a wall stops people breaking into the boot.
On a lot of cars reverse gear is shorter than first gear which is why reversing in along with a warm engine makes it more economical. The man without a signature.0
