  • Hi everyone! Yep my dad is great! A truly remarkable man who gave up everything to look after me and my brother single handed for all those years. My mum was never interested so she has lost out there. I have had a brilliant day with my family. We stayed in watching silly stuff on the tele and we couldn't go out even if we wanted to as my baby nephew was sick all over my dad and his wife too! But that's what happens when you jig a baby about just after he has finshed his dinner I suppose! It makes me realise how much I miss them and how I long to be closer to them and if I was driving that would be a stronger possibility. Grrrrrrrr to the driving again! I have heard from my fella, he sent me the most gorgeous picture of the mountains. I wish I was there...one day eh!
Been thinking about the money a lot today and have a few things to pay out for this month. I hate the thought of having to spend money now so need to work at the food bill and cutting it down as much as I can. I have to pay for some dental work, the money for the car insurance thingy and also a friend has managed to get me and Emily tickets to watch Bristol Rovers play in the quarter finals of the FA cup! They will be such sort after tickets it's unreal! I really can't wait to go and watch them as it will be amazing, just means that I have to find some money from somewhere. It will be a msjor cut back month next month I think. I wonder with a little organisation, exactly how little I can live off of? I am determined to do well next month even with the stuff to pay out for. Luckily I won't have any broadband and phone to pay out for this month and my account went into credit after I stopped the cable tv, so that is something I suppose. Mad as I am not missing the cable tv at all, so god only knows why I kept it for so long in the first place! What a waste of money!
Other than the money stuff today has been good. I have started to get a bad sore throat and I hope it is just a day long thing. I need to go out for a run tomorrow and I intend to get out there and run twice next week in my lunch break too. I think after this race I will knock it on the head for a bit and perhaps go out for a medium length run once a week. I am worried that I am gonna struggle next month with the half as I haven't done much training, but will give it my best shot anyway as it is the taking part that counts. I hope everyone is ok and having a good weekend! I am off to bed soon as I am shattered out! xxx

  • Hi Donner

You've obviously learnt alot of great skills on the parenting front from your dad, I hope he is proud of himself as you obviously admire him so much. I agree it was your mums loss, are you in touch with her at all? I was just wondering if she saw you on tv?
  • Thanks! Nope not in touch with her at all. I know she still lives local to my dad and that she has 2 other children, one of them younger than my daughter! I wonder if she did see me? My name is still the same as I haven't ever married so she should know it was me if she did. When my dad saw me on the tv, he just said I looked amazing and did really well, he never said anything like blimin' heck...what a mess you have gotten in to, which I was worried about!

  • Awe your dad sounds amazing and it sounds like he made up for the lack of a mum and became a 2 for the price of 1 parent and I have always believed this is possible.
I saw your interview too and he is right you came across really well and really confident.
  • It definitely is possible...and I hope that I can become that for Emily! I feel sorry for her sometimes as her dad was never the slightest bit interested and actaully denied even knowing me...mmmmm picked a right good one there! But she has me and a great grandad, uncle etc so she knows how much she is loved! Just wish I had more money so I could spoil her rotten, but this will have to wait a few years now! I am off to bed in a mo as I am falling asleep over the keyboard! Not good! xxx

  • Sounds like you had a great day, they do say you can pick your friends but not your relatives, luckily your dad falls into the category of both. As for the rest well there are ot enough expletives in the world to describe them. Its good he is supporing and not condemning another sign of a true friend! Money is not the be all and end all- you can spoil her with your time, love and thoughtfulness- remember its a long journey don't get too down nightxxx
Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:
  • Night Donner have a good sleep x
  • Sorry guys...just a quick update as was poorly yesterday and don't feel that great today either! Not much to report apart from still longing for payday! I had some shopping delivered tonight from Asda and got free delivery not to mention a free loaf of bread for being a new customer! The delivery guy was a really friendly young man...don't often get that...man I sound soooo old! He also told me that if they have to upgrade any item, you only get charged for the lower priced one you ordered! Bonus! Sure Tesco don't do that! Want to start trying to do a fortnightly or perhaps monthly meal plan so that I can do a mega big shop and pick bits up (fresh stuff) when needed, that way I will save money and also not have to worry about getting the food home too, what with having to walk or bus it everywhere! Have been mega healthy today and intend to carry on like that now! Getting some use out of my juicer so instead of scoffing my face tonight and then getting depressed as I feel sick and bloated and guilty, I had a juice and that has kept me away from the bad foodies all night! I hope I can keep it up! Felt a lot better for the juice! I am off to bed now as I am shattered out. Will be back tomorrow for an update and check of the bank balances before payday...whoop whoop! Oh I decided to buy my dad's wife a mothers day card for the first time today...they have been married since 2005 and I never really call her 'mum' as it seems odd being that I have grown up without one for all these years! But thought that this year I would like to send her a card so picked one up earlier and will send it on Thursday. Hope she likes it! Take care all xxx

  • Hi Donner

I'm going to bed now too not good staying on here at the expense of not organising stuff for tomorrow and going cross eyed :o

I find that ordering a food shop online every 2 weeks really helps me be more controlled with what I buy, no impulse buys or temptations, and then I do a small shop between weeks for milk and fruit. I buy frozen veg so I always have it in and no waste. I have saved money doing it this way.

    Night x
  • That's a great idea about the veg...I rarely do that but it would help save quite a bit as I do end up having to bin a lot of veg. I tend to use a lot of mushroom but they go manky really quickly. This may be a dumb question but I wonder if you can buy frozen sliced mushrooms? Don't think I have ever seen them before! I am gonna find out cause that would save me a bit!
My friend is just getting me added onto his insurance now for his car...am scared! Gotta be done though as will save quite a bit of money with lessons!
