Is it normal to get a certificate for each deposit and not one with the whole amount on it? I have two now, one for my opening deposit and the other for my second and last deposit.

    Yes it is.

We had one for the opening balance and then another for the additional amount - both arrived on the same day.

We also had a statement today showing both deposits, the total balance and when each deposit was cleared. This was 5 days for the cheque and immediately for the CHAPS.
  • I was wondering what uptake of deposits NR got for Issue 1.

I think that is being a bit optimistic by Mr Thompson.

It was the interest rate, combined with the flexibility and the unlimited guarantee on funds that lured me.

A stand-alone Northern Rock, under any name, would be highly unlikely to offer that combination of benefits. Any sign of the guarantee going and my money goes elsewhere, back in £35000 chunks.

Personally I think it is totally unfair on the other banks at present. Northern Rock have a clear advantage, especially for savers with larger amounts of money. If it results in deals like this for savers when the interest rates elsewhere are being cut, though, I'm not complaining.

Better to use 33k chunks, thus allowing for interest at approximately 6% to compound over a one year period; bringing you total up to just shy of 35k.

Do you get a monthly statement with this bond showing the interest paid.

"On opening your Bond, we will send you a Certificate of Deposit detailing your Account Number and opening balance. We’ll also send further statements following additional deposits.
We will also send you a statement annually, shortly after the interest payment date and on closure. These statements will show the balance, details of any transactions and interest added to your Account"

Has everyone who deposited here had some sort of written confirmation through by now?

I was a bit late sending off my printout with initial cheque because I was waiting for the funds to arrive at my bank. I then noticed the account was being withdrawn so I was half expecting to get my application refused. I now find that my bank statement says they cleared the cheque on the 5th Feb, and they obviously must have got it well before then, but I have still heard nothing from them. Reading some reports above I am a bit worried they have credited to the wrong account or something.

They are a little slow in confirming in some cases.

I had to chase them for my initial deposit certificate and I chased them today regarding my further deposits which they normally confirm in writing.

Suggest you give them a call to put your mind at rest regarding your account.

    regards
